L'Oreal Magic Root Cover Up Spray - usage tips, please

[ Edited ]

My hairdresser recommended this product until I can see her again.  I gave it a sample try last night and was not adapt at it.  I got droplets of color on my cheek while trying to address the gray in front of my ears.  Where I sprayed near my forehead caused my bangs to stiffen up like straw!

Questions:

  • Do you use this on freshly washed, dry hair only?
  • Can you follow it with styling products?
  • Is it supposed to stiffen up your hair?
  • How do you keep it off your face / out of your eyes?
  • Please share any application tips.
  • Specifically - I have a ridiculous cowlick on one side of the back of my head and that's really in need of cover up.

Thank you!  ♥

I tried the sprays but this product from HSN is the best and easiest I've ever found for touching up those pesky roots. Fast, looks great and NOT messy. You might want to try it.

@PilatesLoverI bought spray, too.  Just haven't tried it yet.  My stylist suggested I practice on an old rag first to get the feel of how it works.  I guess I better do that soon.

HI!--so I have tried them all!--I have the spray u were showing--tried Joan Rivers cover-up etc. etc.--I don'tlike the spray because I don't like the feeling of that spray on my scalp--don't know if it is good on the scalp and hair in that area--so here's what I might suggest that I find the best--it's Clairol root touch-up--It is a powder in a compact--I bought it at CVS for like $15 or less--I use it with a cotton ball--it comes with a little brush also but I like the cotton ball because you get more pproduct on it--just rub it into the powder and apply where you need it--no mess--that's all I ever use and it does the job..good luck--marynj

I've been using this for many years.  It takes a little to get used to.  If you spray too hard, you get too much product then it can be too dark.  If you spray too lightly, you get the drips.  I apply on freshly washed and dried hair but sometimes I do need a "little touch up" and by that usually just a spot above my ear...so I've used it on dirty hair.  I've never followed with styling products because I do my hair as I normally would then finish with the color.  It doesn't stiffen my hair.  When I use it, it's just around the front of my face.  Right above my ears is the worst for me then above forehead.  I wear my hair up practically every day so I spray inbetween my bangs and the part of my hair that goes up.  I let it sit a second then wipe with a tissue if I got any on me.  I don't use it on the back of my head, I can't reach that.  But when that becomes necessary, I then use loreal root touch up in white box (semi permanent).  I really like the product.  It saves me a lot of money in between going to the salon.  It takes practice to get the feel of how hard to press down to spray and keep moving when spraying.  Stop in between different areas.  Just to mention when I use a tissue to wipe access, I like doing that regardless because I get in real tight and close to hair root and wipe area a little, takes away the look that it was painted on with a paint brush, makes it look natural.

@PilatesLover   I have never used the spray, but you might want to try a little Vaseline on your skin around your hairline to help prevent the spray from staining.  I do this all the time when my hairdresser colors my hair (dark dye) and it really has helped me prevent dark staining on my skin.

I use " Gray Away" by Everpro. It is readily available at grocery and drug stores.  I been using it for the last couple of years to camouflage some thinning on top. It doesn't come off till you shampoo.

I have been using Roux Tween Time Root Touch Up Stick for over 20 years. Just wet the top of the stick and run it over the roots. I find it on ebay or amazon. One stick will last forever.

Re: L'Oreal Magic Root Cover Up Spray - usage tips, please

For me, this spray works like magic, pun intended -

I have gray only in one spot, so I use this whenever I am going out and am very pleased with the results.

Using the magnifying mirror on my medicine cabinet, I aim right at the spot first then move left to right - takes very little time and generally will look fine for about 4 days -

Comes out quickly so be careful -
