KS tan towelettes question

I haven't used them in a year or so and found two in my drawer - wanting to get a faux base this weekend. What is the trick to get the best color? Should I moisturize lightly before using the towelette or liberally right after? I completely don't remember how I used them last time but I know I had a great color that lasted for a week... TIA!
