July 4th Makeup Looks (and a few other reminiscences)

It will be just DH and I on our own tomorrow, for the first time in a very long time.

Before COVID, we used to make the trip up to his family's for the weekend. His whole family is around the same area except for his only niece and her family. His youngest sister had everyone over for a picnic by the pond on the farm he grew up on. We stayed the weekend because we were far away. DH's sisters' children were my children's only cousins, and we had so much fun. DH's parents,  aunts and uncles, and his second cousins were all around there.

We stayed on a lake with his dad and stepmother about 1/2 hour away. His one uncle was the last of that generation. A few years after he died, one of my sisters-in-law and I were sitting by the pond talking and looking around. Another came over. We were talking about that older generation, and she said, "WE are the older generation, lined up in our chairs like they used to!" NO! When did THAT happen? We all laughed! Wasn't it yesterday we were chasing after toddlers, putting them in life jackets while someone took them across the pond in a rowboat. Then we laughed when we remembered the preteen years when they gave us a "fireworks" show on the other side with their sprinklers.

Then right before COVID hit, his youngest sister's husband died suddenly from a brain aneurysm at 61. His sister didn't want to have anything big any longer. Some of my children's cousins now have young families of their own and have scattered.

Our children can't be with us. I'm a little sad, but I'm going to dress up and put on my patriotic makeup and jewelry! Thank you for letting me pour my heart out!

bareMinerals Complexion Rescue

Laura Geller Baked Blush and Brighten in Cherry Custard

I'll go neutral on my eyes - LG Baked from one of her big pallets, LG Marble Eyes Pencil Liner in Ocean Deep (top lid only), mascara IT Tightline

LipScense lip color in Fly Girl - my favorite red!

I hope DH notices! LOL!  Smiley Wink

He will make two cheeseburgers on the grill. I'll make sides inside. And we'll eat out back.

I'm sure there will be a baseball game on sometime during the day, so we will schedule around that. Hey- I might even get to sit and relax with a book and iced tea!

Are you thinking about your Fourth of July look? Smiley Happy

@beach-mom  Thank you for sharing your touching memories about your 4th of July spent with family over the years.  Memories really are a gift- no matter how much time goes by, we can remember the things and experiences that really stick with us.  I'm sorry for the sudden passing of  your uncles youngest sister's husband- I hope she feels his presence and love in spirit on the 4th of July.  Some 4th of July events are full of family members and others are small- but the love and fun is still there, and I hope that you have a wonderful 4th of July with your DH Smiley Happy.  Your makeup look sounds beautiful and I bet you'll look lovely today!  Enjoy your burgers and an ice cold glass of iced tea! Smiley HappyHeart

@beach-mom, I can identify with your feelings so much.  Years back, we used to have big family picnics.  Everyone came, and we had so many wonderful hours of visiting and fun.  I treasure those memories and miss those no longer with us.

Re: July 4th Makeup Looks (and a few other reminiscences)

@beach-mom   I get it and times change as family dynamics change. Ours is scattered...not too far away, but would have to stay overnight and just a hassle packing, etc. I'm getting lazy.

We started out with a small cookout and a few friends got added in so off to the grocery to get more food. I made my usual cheesecake w/ blueberries/strawberries as decorations. July 4th paper goods so not much cleanup.

I did purchase a red lipstick, but bare faced otherwise since in the 90's and will be going in and out to help organize the cooking of burgers and hot dogs. Potato salad in the frig. and a bean bake with maple syrup and bacon in the frig. ready for the oven.

Wishing you and all forum friends a safe weekend.

It will be 109 degrees here today. I'll be staying cool with sunscreen and mascara!  So no big make-up look today! Planning on giving horses each a bath Nice for the horses and me!

Husband will be grilling burgers, fireworks have been cancelled because it is so hot and dry!

Enjoy your holiday!

It's going to be 115 here today.  Shorts and a tee. No makeup only moisturizer. I'm not going anywhere except to sit in my air conditioned house.
