As a former journalist and current editor, I have to say that story is not journalism but instead a hack job. And Judith did not sell her entire company, the deal is more about licensing and marketing; she remains chief jewelry designer. She also never owned 120 stores nation-wide like the story says. Her designs are still carried in elite department stores and independent jewelers nation wide. She also maintains her flagship in Manhattan and a small boutique on Long Island.

As a long-term Ripkanista, I feel compelled to defend Judith and dismiss this sad attempt at hurting her reputation. I think the entire situation reflects more on the angry interior decorator. I cannot imagine telling anyone "do what you have to do" three times over a nine-year period and having that person spin it into something so obviously ridiculous and vicious. ~Peach

While the whole business just sounds absurd I have to ask: if she asked him three different times does that mean that he complied the first two?

Great post, LuckyPeach! I'm also a long-term Ripkanista as well as having worked in some major corporations. It's just amazing what some people will allege in a lawsuit for $$$.

I don't like her line of jewelry, so none of my money has ever filtered into her pocket; nor do I expect it to in the future. Judith always seems so "stiff and reserved" on her QVC shows that it creeps me out.

It's because she can't move the muscles in her face. She is stiff.

Linda Moss's Home Shoppingista blog has a link to the NYDN article about Judith Ripka. Go to her blog then scroll down to the 2nd newest blog article from January 4th, I can't post the direct link as it has a verboten word in it.

Just because someone says something doesn't mean it's true.

I haven't looked at the article, but I assume NYDN is the NY Daily News? If so, it's more a tabloid than an actual newspaper. Zero credibility.

Absolutely! In the times in which we're living where *news* is on 24/7, there is a need for stories to fill the time. Also, I read something one day that many people tend to remember the *first* thing they heard about a story, even if it is proven later to be false, because so many people don't follow a story after the initial report. One of the most important things we should all remember is... in this country... we are innocent until proven guilty. Like so many recent events around the country have reminded me, it's best to wait until all the facts are presented because sometimes the actual story isn't anything like what was first reported.
