Re: Is there a concealer out there that really works for real dark circles?

Dark circles are different than using concealer for other problems. I posted on another thread and I will copy and paste to here what I put in the other thread.

I think the best thing for dark circles is to NOT use a heavy concealer. In my experience heavy concealer actually makes them worse and more pronounced. When you use a thinner consistency concealer you do not get the cakiness and cakiness can actually make dark circles appear worse.

Many makeup artists use a peach colored concealer because peach/orange is opposite of blue on the color wheel so it cancels it out. Bobbi Brown makes a peach corrector. I also think when working with concealers it is important to "warm" the product up. On the back of your hand dip your ring finger into the corrector and then tap tap tap onto the back of your hand. This warms up the product and thins it out giving it a better consistency to go on your eye now. Do not wipe or slide, use a tapping motion. Start with the smallest amount possible and then do a slight building by using the tapping motion. Eve Pearl also makes a corrector. It is called Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer I think. It is very similar to Bobbi's correcter. Maybe a little more opaque. You can get Eve Pearl on Amazon, Ebay or Eve Pearl.com. You then choose your shading. You may want to check out Bobbi Browns first because you can actually see it there and play with it and have a SA help you out with it.

Another good one isn't a concealer at all but a highlighter, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. Many people have good luck with this whether used alone or with (lightly) your concealer or corrector. It brings light to the face, it is thin and not too thick so it isn't cakey, attracting more attention to that area.

Another very good one is Makeup Forever 5 Camouflage Cream Palette. You can find this at Sephora or their website. It is 5 different tones and they do have a peachy one. MUF is a bit thinner in consistency than BB or Eve Pearl. Again, use the back of your hand to warm it up and thin it out a bit by tapping before you start tapping on your eye area. You can actually see this product at Sephora before buying and try it out and see how you like it. The nice thing about this is that there are an additional 4 other concealers so you can mix to your tone.

For something like looking for the best concealer for you dark circles, it is good to check out all the makeup counters and just dig in and try different things until you find something you like. Let the SA know what you are looking for and then she can point you in the right direction.

Anyway, hope this helps! Good luck!

I do recall reading this by you. Thanks for posting it again.

I don't have horribly bad dark circles, but I certainly have come to the conclusion that I'm better off with a lighter consistency anyway. I've started using L'Oreal's Lift Serum Absolute concealer, which is what I consider to be a hybrid between a regular, medium coverage concealer and a product like Touche Eclat. The "light" shade works perfectly for me.

Personally, I did not have good luck with the one corrector I tried (BB). It was drying and accentuated fine lines. I don't think I really need it, so I did return it.

Another thing I've found is that I do better when I swipe the pen delivery on my concealer in an arc under my eyes but not right under my lower lashes. Then I just dab, dab, dab it in and a bit up toward my lower lashes. I always add some some to the inner corners of my eyes as well.

Thanks again for the the good information, Irshgrl.

Hey 2 of my fave posters!

I know I've read in the past that you need to counter- or color correct the darkness first, then conceal. I never thought about using a lighter concealer to lessen the problem.

While I don't have dark circles rather the usual darkening that comes with age, I use a one step without powder. Mally's Cancellation Concealer has been my HG for years.

I couldn't use Bobbi B's two step, correct & conceal. For some reason her formula found every fine line under my eye where Mally's doesn't at all and it's not exactly a thick formula, but it's cream versus liquid.

Some women with heavy-duty hereditary dark circles swear by using a red product first... like a lip liner or lipstick in red... THEN a skin colored concealer.

OP..you might try? Anyway, great post Irshgrl. Great info! Smile

Re: Is there a concealer out there that really works for real dark circles?

I just saw this on MSN.com today about beauty favorites of celebrities. This is from Salma Hyek.

Salma says. "[My] dark circles are dark because they are blue-based. The base of my concealer (Nuance Front & Center Concealer & Brightener, $11, cvs.com) is orange, because it compensates for the tonality of blue."

Re: Is there a concealer out there that really works for real dark circles?

To elaborate on the theory above.. red vs peach which sometimes isn't a strong enough counter shade.

I know it sounds bizarre. I've heard of blue and peach counter colors.

This "red theory" was on a beauty forum years ago and it was working for the girls who tried it. I think they were using a soft liner pencil, but I can't visualize that.

There was one specific pencil made by beauticontrol as I recall. Maybe a search would render more info on this theory?

Hi, fun. Yes, although I said I don't have horrible dark circles, I most definitely battle that darkness that is yet another delightful gift of age. {#emotions_dlg.scared}

I've tried so many concealers through the years. The one I find to cover the best is Dermablend.

I keep forgetting about Dermablend. I need to go check that out -- thanks for the reminder!

I've seen many positive reviews on several of her products. This might be worth a try.

I have to amend my post slightly. Although I do still like the L'Oreal concealer I mentioned, I do think I get better coverage with BBUE. Yes, it's thick, but if I use a small amount and just dab it on, it really does do a superior job without much creasing.

The L'Oreal is good for light coverage and brightening, though.

I am tired of wasting my money on stuff that does not work. I am going to save up and get my issued lasered--Dark circles and broken capillaries around my nose and some Juvederm for the monkey lines.

Re: Is there a concealer out there that really works for real dark circles?

Have you tried the CC Concealer from It Cosmetics? I love it but I admit I don't have dark circles but it's the BEST concealer I've ever owned. It is the only one I plan to use.
