Re: Interesting observation of make up

When I think of garish makeup, I think of the comic strip One Big Happy who has a neighbor woman named Miss Avis who wears deep blush, blue eyeshadow, too much mascara & deep lipstick! Woman LOL

I think the trend now is to look healthy so not too dark blush or lipstick & no weird eyeshadow colors. I guess it means looking like you have hardly any makeup on & no spider eyelashes.

Sometimes too much makeup makes it look like you are trying too hard.

Re: Interesting observation of make up

When I worked from the office I always had a full face of make-up on.  No way would I go to the office without it, but working from home I don't.  I do wear it when I know I'm going to have my camera turned on for meetings.  Most often I don't need to turn it on, but when I do, I will wear make-up.  I feel better about myself when I wear make-up.  I actually miss it on days I don't wear it.

I think I mentioned above that it takes me about two hours to "get ready".  That's a bit misleading.  Yes, I allow myself two hours to "get ready" to leave the house but I don't spend two hours putting on my face.  Two hours includes wrangling dogs in and out, eating a protein bar, making my cold brew, washing and styling my hair, picking out clothes, applying makeup, and getting dressed and choosing a perfume.  All done at a semi-leisurely pace.  If my husband is home and can dog wrangle and it's a no wash hair day, I already have my outfit chosen, I can shave off about 45 minutes.  I enjoy the art of applying makeup.

I understand. When I was working I needed about 90 minutes to "get out the door". There were lots of things to do to get ready. Now I can get ready (hair, makeup, clothes) in 30 minutes if I showered the night before.

My comment about it being an exaggeration that some women need hours to get ready was not directed at you. It was a response to the Op of this thread who posted that she didn't have time to spend "hours sitting in front of a mirror painting up".

Re: Interesting observation of make up

I lived my whole life in the big city. We retired and moved into a very rural community. I have always been a clothes horse. LOVE clothes! I wouldn't dare leave the house without make up, hair done! I see women in the area that seem to not care about themselves. When we go out to eat no one even dresses better. Looks like they haven't changed their clothes in eons. Sorry but I always wear nicer clothes when going out.. I have a friend that was a teacher for grammar school age kids. She never did nor does she now wear a stitch of makeup. She once told me that she and the other women teachers thought it gave young girls the wrong meaning, that they should be happy with how they look naturally. Eh, I like looking my best. My dh is crazy about me, he loves how I look and dress. That's all that matters to me. JMO
