Instyler?

I have pretty short hair and would really like to try and let it grow out some ,right now it waves in the back and that is the reason I usually keep it real short, I just don't like the waves at all. I was thinking about buying the Instyler with the 3/4 in barrel but I didn't know how well it would work on short hair and I didn't know how hot it gets and don't want to damage my hair with this. My hair is fine I guess and I do color my hair since I'm just about 80 % white. Living Social has a deal on this today and was thinking about ordering it but wasn't sure if it would work that well or not.
