Hello. Thinking lately and wondering: Why would everyone not use Non Toxic Products whenever possible?
With tons of chemicals in makeup, lotion, skincare, bodycare, cleaning products, plastics, etc. why is everyone still using them? Just wondering why everyone is not replacing with as many non toxic things as possible.
Guess I also wonder why companies continue to use dangerous chemicals especially in Skin Care and Makeup Etc.
Thanks!!

IMO, most people do not want to take the time to read the tiny labels on the jars, cans, boxes, etc. Also, I have found for certain things non chemical stuff does not work (in household cleaning). Also, the cost, a lot of natural stuff costs more, and all natural is not available in everything. Then there is the advertising, not everyone believes all the BS. Just like the pure honey, a lot of it is not pure. And there are those huge words on the labels we cant pronounce or know what it is, nor do most folks want or have the tme to research all that junk.
Just some of my thoughts on the matter. I find labeling printing is getting smaller and smaller and at my age I cant read it even with glasses. If I want to read a label I have to use a magnifying glass and I dont carry one around with me.

There isn't 100% agreement on what constitutes a "toxic" ingredient either. Many on this forum and others believe that certain ingredients are risky and cause cancer. Those who agree would probably like them removed across the board even when there is no concrete proof to back up their position.

For me non-toxic stuff is important to use on my skin as well as in my house. I have been on a very long mission to detoxify my life as much as I can within reason. By "within reason" I have taken into consideration that some things contain, for good reasons, substances that may prevent a health risk. For example, this can be seen with parabens and (food) artificial sweeteners.
What it boils down to for me is using products which have shorter, less complicated ingredient lists. Less is really more in this case. Generally, products that contain the least amount of ingredients are often what you see in products that are either advertised as being organic or non-toxic. Simplicity is key for me when it comes to the products I use.
ETA...I am a real life chemist.![]()

Define "non toxic."

The answer to your question is because they can and make more $$$...I have a ton of allergies so I have to read the labels on everyting from cleaners, makeup, food, etc. It is very time consuming but it is normal for me. I think consumers are more informed on what should or should not be in the products and how the products are produced. Until those products stop selling then I don't see those compaines changing their methods.

Here is one of many infographics. Some may disagree with the list and others may add more to it.
The "Contaminants" on the bottom are in a class of chemicals called solvents and are most likely toluene and toluene-containing compounds.
"Non toxic" would be something that would not contain these things and possibly more. It's difficult to find a totally non toxic product these days. I have resorted to making a few of my own. I feel good about that. No one likes to see these kinds of lists that I am showing here. But since the question was asked, I thought I show it. I don't like it either.

The above chart is a perfect example of misinformation parading as fact.

As I mentioned before, not all will agree with that list I have posted. I certainly do not agree with all of it. There are, however, more than one of those chemicals that have been proven to be a health hazard...lead in dyes and extraction solvents. I would say these are facts and can be found in dot gov msds.
