Re: I thought I was an autumn but maybe not.

I am a very strong winter.  My hair used to be black....silver with black now.  My eyes are a very light Chrystal vibrant blue and my skin is very light....I burn in the sun within minutes.

I can't wear warm tones in anything...clothing or jewelry.

If you look great in olive green, brown, tan, cream, gold, rust orange, you are warm...

If you look great in fushia, purples, blues, gray, optic white, you are cool.

I don't think it matters what season we are.  Most of us know what colors look best on us.

@Carmie  -thank you for posting that graphic.  In looking at the pics, I definitely fall into the warm spring and soft autumn categories.  Agree that a person should wear what they like, however, I do find color theories fascinating.  Color can affect so much of how we feel about ourselves, our homes, etc.

@JudyL  That must be fun to be Warm Spring and Soft Autumn- you get to have even more of a color selection for outfits than just one season Smiley Happy.

@SportyShorty07 - I do enjoy color in my clothing but find that I stick to certain colors most of the time.  The one color I get the most compliments when I wear it, is periwinkle.  It's a hard color to find though.

@JudyL  Ooh periwinkle is such a pretty color and it is hard to find sometimes- I bet it looks really great on you! I get compliments when I wear coral or pink. Smiley Happy

@Allthingsgirly67

Make sure you are next to a window.  Lights throw a green cast.  No makeup.

Put a stark white across your shoulders.  Wait a minute.  Take the drape half way down, put it back.  Don't take your eyes off of the mirror during the test.

You likely saw slight to dark shadow under your eyes, down your cheeks, or around your mouth.

How obvious is your face next to the white? Are you washed out?

Do the same with off white.  Do the same tests.

Does this look better with your face?

If it's the white, you are Blue based.

If it's the off white, you are Yellow based.

Please let me know.

@LTT1  it is confusing, there's so many differences of opinion and

theories out there.

Re: I thought I was an autumn but maybe not.

[ Edited ]

Hi @Allthingsgirly67 ! I was a model for one of Carole Jackson's original trainers at the salon where a friend worked. That started my interest in this. The salon was going to carry her makeup line.

So I was fascinated by it, and when another friend started her own color consulting business, she asked me to be a model too!

So here are a few tips I picked up and have used since then.

I am an "autumn." I had dark honey blonde hair growing up; now it is a little lighter. My eyes are hazel, more amber, and they look olive green when I wear certain colors. I look good in the colors of autumn - think of leaves, Indian corn, pumpkins, etc. I look better in cream or off-white, and although I love and wear southwestern silver jewelry, I look better in gold.

One thing that helps is draping your shoulders in pure white and off white. The warm seasons (spring and autumn) will probably look better in off white. That color next to your face will make your face look creamy and candlelit. If I hold up stark white, my face has a greyish cast. The cool seasons will look great in stark white. My daughter is cool (summer) and she looks fantastic in white.

A simple way I have of looking at this is to just think about the seasons. Cool winters look great in jewel tones, like emerald, ruby, sapphire. Think about the colors of the holidays. Cool summers look good in pure bright summer colors like light sky blue, green grass, watermelon, etc. Warm springs look good in the pastels of spring, like purple pansies, tulips (pink, red, white, coral).

A few more tips. I used to "analyze" female news reporters on TV. Were they wearing silver (cool) or gold (warm) jewelry? Most people look better in one and gravitate towards that.

You can apply it to makeup colors too. Fuschia lipstick is pretty, but I look horrible in it! I love pink blush, but I know I look better in peaches and corals.

I believe anyone, including me, can wear any color she likes. But I'm aware certain colors look better next to my face. If I want to wear white, I wear pants!

Have fun playing around with this!  Smiley Happy

Re: I thought I was an autumn but maybe not.

I had color me beautiful. But I don’t fall neatly into the categories described. I never did. That’s why I’m asking for input. I know I can wear rose lipstick but not too pink or a touch of brown in it. I can also wear certain orange based tones as well. Also I can wear wine but not burgundy along with plum blush as long as it’s not purple based. Ugghh, I’m so confused.
