Re: I think I'm done with Bobbi Brown eye shadow palettes

You know, I have the it cosmetics naturally pretty palette (the first it es palette), and thought my eyelids looked dry and chalky with the mattes. I pulled out some laura mercier sateen shadow and bobbi brown shimmer wash, and thought my eyes looked much better. The sheen seemed to blur the crepey texture. Fwiw, I use BB sparkle shadow only for evening/special occasions, and just press a bit on the ball of my eyelid with a slightly damp natural hair eyeshadow brush. Application of bb sparkle is tricky and you can end up looking like a disco ball If you try to apply like a regular shadow. Most of her recent palettes have included at least one sparkle, and I agree that's just not necessary.

Re: I think I'm done with Bobbi Brown eye shadow palettes

I have stopped buying palettes of any eye shadows as I rarely use all of the shades, and that can be expensive. I do like shimmer wash as a finish. I too find mattes shades to make my lids look older. Clinique has excellent shades that never let me down. I buy shades I will wear and hit pan! I do of course have tons of palettes I have purchased in the past! Many of them are BB.

Her colors are gorgeous in the pans!

There is no pigment. They are hard to build upon and get color on the actual eye.

It's kind of like this, when she got really BIG, her products starting getting smaller and going downhill. It sure happens every time. I remember some of my first things from her were gigantic compared to now, same for Guerlain, the Meteorites are completely ruined now by greedy corporate riff rafe.

I used to get really s&cked in by BB palettes and I have a bunch. The colors are so gorgeous and the groupings of colors always look so beautiful. However, I agree with others that the color payoff is not great. And they are not long-lasting, at least IME.

Re: I think I'm done with Bobbi Brown eye shadow palettes

I quit using pressed powder shadows. I agree her shadows in this form are not something I personally like. I find the colors are not true to the sample, or what they look like in the compact. They maybe a little glittery. I have found shadow "collections" are a waste of my money. I never wear half of the shadows they include. I used to buy the collections because they looked so darn good and pretty. If you get 6 or 8 different colors and you use only two like I did, it is a waste. JMHO

I love BB long lasting shadow in the pot. I wear Stone, which is a cream shadow without any shine of glitter, and IT LASTS! I love it. Have been wearing it for 5 years. Just a few dabs, spread and done.

I totally agree about the "collections" - they're so pretty grouped together in the pan but I usually only end up using one or two colors. I never buy collections or palettes anymore.

Re: I think I'm done with Bobbi Brown eye shadow palettes

I make my own Bobbi pallets out of the shadows I prefer. I am very fair and very pink. Orange/brown shades accentuate the redness on my eyelid. I prefer cool tones: grey, cement, slate, shell, ivory, etc. I started with a 3-pan refillable pallet and have moved my way up to the 6-pan pallet and added a blush. I go to my local counter. That way I can try before buying. I hate glittery cosmetics. Skin should look like skin, not a child's craft project.

rac, I have similar coloring to you and I pretty much always wear shadows in browns and creams, light pink blush and light pink lips. But I like the sound of your greys and slates, I think I could pull that off. It can be something different for spring. Smiley Happy

Re: I think I'm done with Bobbi Brown eye shadow palettes

About 10-15 years ago I got one of the original "Surf and Sand" summer eyeshadow palettes. Before that, I loved all things Bobbi. I had her books and her makeup was my favorite line. Back then, the mua's stressed, and I read many articles about, the fact that Bobbi would NEVER use shimmer or glitter. She wanted the natural look - pretty skin and natural looking eyes and lips. So I was skeptical about buying shimmer bricks, but they worked and I ended up loving them.

OK to the spring when I bought the Surf and Sand palette - I fell in love with the colors and the names, and even though it was glittery the mua worked her magic and I went home feeling like a beach baby. Once I really started to wear it at home I realized that any of the different shades I put on all looked like silver shimmer. ALL of them. At the time we didn't have a Bobbi Brown counter near us, so I had to wait until I could get to one. When I finally did and took my palette in, the mua told me that was the look for summer, and it wasn't glittery on me at all. Yes it was. I went home with my palette, but ended up giving it to DD to "play" with. I haven't been tempted by Bobbi Brown eyeshadows since, and although I might get one of her gel liners from time to time, for the most part I've moved on.
