I suppose I surrender. Help this sensitive-eyed, waterproof mascara rookie, will you?

I used L'Oreal Voluminous mascara forever. Along with many of you, I noticed the product changed and switched to Almay One Coat Thickening. My eyelashes are nice and long but now that I am nearing 50, they went from thick and lush to not as much. So, I need thickening, not length (they hit glasses and sunglasses already).

I was noticing (as another poster did here) that my mascaras for the first time were uncurling my curled lashes. I use a nice Shiseido curler and replace pads often.

I saw that many suggested waterproof mascara to solve the straightened lash look (my upper eyelids already are getting droopy enough for crying out loud!). I have not ever used waterproof mascara. Ever. I worried about my sensitive eyes and I worried about having to add a step in terms of makeup remover when my California Baby unscented wash cleans my face and removes my makeup and mascara today.

So...knowing my story, what mascara brand/formula might you recommend and can you tell me if it will come off with soapy water or do I need to use some sort of oil or makeup remover (I hope not)?
