I need some advice about foundation...

My skin color matches the medium tan matte, but this color looks too red in the horrible lights at my school. I'd like to go more neutral to counteract the red, but I don't know which shade. How do medium beige and tan compare with medium tan? Medium beige looks lighter, but tan looks quite a bit darker. Thanks.
