Re: I might not be around as much

l had a knee replacement that wasn't so fun and wish l kept my old one !  About a year after getting it , l got an infection in it , don't think how, but was there . Painful , swollen ,hot , knee , l felt sick and had low grade fever . The orthopedic surgeon tried treating it for a whole year and finally sent me to a specialist . That surgeon took the whole entire replacement out and put in a temporary spacer and for 3 months l didn't have a knee , had to hop on one leg . After 6 weeks of IV therapy, and more waiting , l got the whole thing replaced again . Now l am almost 3 months past that surgery and l still can't walk decent , painful when bending or getting up from sitting , can't stand more than 5 minutes without pain . Besides losing my whole spring and summer and looks like fall too , l can't see what advantage it was for me to get the knee replacement . Now l am scard to death l will get another infection . Of coarse l know most people don't have this kind of a problem , l was just unlucky ! But l want to say , l went into the surgery having no idea that this could happen !

@monicakm   Hope the knee issue stops hurting you....with surgery or not. Take care and will look forward to your posts, even if not as frequent.

Sorry to hear that you are having pain issues!  It's difficult when you have to wait so long to get in to see doctors, etc.  I feel for you as I have experienced various long-standing pain issues myself and it's no fun at all.

Re: I might not be around as much

@monicakm   I'm really, really sorry to hear about your knee pain.  I cannot even imagine how you're dealing with it.  What got me fired up was when you said you can't get in to see your doc til November 3.  MAKE SOME NOISE.   CALL EVERYDAY TO SEE IF THERE'S BEEN A CANCELLATION.  I say this because it's always the person at the other end of the phone who can make or break a doctor's practice.  Going out on a limb here, but is the scheduler/front desk person mature enough to realize that you MUST be seen???  Be nice, but be firm.  By the time November 3rd rolls around, you could be on the mend.  I recall my Dad not being well and not looking well.  His wife called the cardiologist's office on April 19, and he was given an appointment on June 4.  I called back and spoke with someone and literally begged for an appointment.  I told her if this was her Dad, would she be okay with waiting such a long time.  I told her by the time June 4 came around my Dad could be gone.  She had me bring him in that same afternoon.  He got on meds that same day.  It's WHO you speak to.  Just be nice about it.

That's great that you got your dad in so quick... The same day no less.  Probably made all the difference in the world.

Nurse Julie is the best. So compassionate so kind and she's the one that told me Yes I could have worn a full face of makeup when I had my knee surgery lol. You can bet I will with this next one 😉.  And I'm always nice.  Being hateful is counterproductive.

How horrible for you! I didn't know it was possible to get an infection in a knee replacement that was a year old.  My physical therapist told me how important it was to take care of it during the healing stage so I didn't get an infection, but a year later??  I have lost a lot of ground in my operated knee due to the left knee going out, My brothers death, and getting my parents out of their house and into an assisted living.

I'm doing my knee exercises for my operated knee to get it back in shape.  I'm so sorry that happened to you.

I tried a cortisone shot with my first knee and it didn't work. This knee is worse than my right one was at that point. He may want to do a syn visc injection first but I'm hoping not because surgery would have to wait for 3 months, but that did work.
