@RollTide2008 @In almost every case, primers are primarily silicones.

@gertrudecloset @I have to use special moisturizers because I have psoriasis on my face. Primers do not address the psoriasis issue at all. Moisturizers that penetrate the skin's top layer are what I use.

@monicakm @For skin that is normal, you could be right, but primers,( at least those containing silicones), on top of psoriasis do not moisturize the psoriatic lesions at all. I'm not sure how primers would affect eczema. Primers do seem to help foundations smooth and adhere to scarring from cystic acne. I will be testing two different primers to use with Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24 Flundation. I'll test test them on skin unaffected by psoriasupis and on skin with some psoriasis. I want to see the results. I'll also be testing half of my face with and half without each of these primers.

I wanted to take time to thank you for your cosmeetic reviews. They are not only interesting but they save me money.

I know what you mean @Mindy D .  I don't use primers.  I use a good moisturizer x 2 then my makeup.  Nothing else.

I used to use Estee Lauder's line of Revitalizing Supreme.  I swore by it.  Then, my soon to be daughter in law was picking up CeraVe from Walmart.  I bought some hydrating facial wash and I've been hooked on it.  That along with their a.m. /p.m. creams.  I also use th Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream for Extra Dry Skin.  Then any foundation I'm going to use.

Moisturizers & Primers

I use both, need the moisture and hydration and find the primer to just create a flawless, silky smooth base for my foundation to adhere to. The two products are not the same thing or have the same properties.  It may be an overkill but I start with an essence, moisturizing toner, snail mucin, moisturizer and primer.

@monicakm I recall you mentioning your preference for a primer.  I've tried them.  I stopped using them a long time ago.  I use minimal makeup now because of my extreme dry skin issues.  I skip primer and just use a lot of moisturizer under liquid foundation.  I have been using a hydrating MAC prep and prime spray.  I will be getting new foundations that are not matte (but they claimed to be ok for dry skin).  They lied (in my case).  Happy I found something with good reviews after much research.

Finding what works is what it's all about Smiley Happy  I can no longer use the Monistat CHAFING Gel as a primer because  it's 100% silicone and drying.  I don't know what's in the Hourglass primer but it works for dry skin.

Thank you @monicakm for the info.  I won't chance adding something else to my fragile skin, especially sense it's not needed for me.  I don't have much need for full coverage makeup and I want my face as light an airy as I can possibly get it.  Many primers and foundations make claims that don't turn out to be good for me.  It was hard enough to find a good foundation that has a more natural finish for my dry eczemea type skin.  Sometimes I need to moisturize then add aquaphor and go without a foundation until my face eases up.  All of this is because of a side affect of a medication I take.  I just live with it.  Woman Happy
