@Mindy D Have you tried Even Better foundation by Clinique? It's the one that says "make-up SPF 15" and underneath that..... it says (evens and corrects). I have tried all the Este Lauder ones for dry skin and more coverage but I always go back to this one. It gives my dry skin a soft dewy finish which I really like. Almost nothing but pancake make-up covers everything (and even then) some of them don't cover everything and just make you look older, imo. This one gives me a good solid medium coverage.

I kinda shake my head in amazement when I read someone doesn't use primer. Have you tried it? Did you get the right one for your skin type and your needs? Did you buy a drugstore brand or a higher end product? Unless you're allergic to the ingredients, there is a primer for every skin type and need and I'm not a MUA but it's my belief that everyone can benefit from a primer if you wear foundation and want it to look it's best. It creates the perfect canvas for your foundation. Foundation goes on smoother, lasts longer, looks better. Even if you don't wear foundation, a primer can improve the look of pores and even out skin tone. There are primers that are untinted and tinted. It's night and day the way foundation goes on over (the right) primer. And skincare products prior to primer and makeup application also makes a big difference. Twenty five years ago when Smashbox came out with their first primer (it was silicone) I read here that Monistat CHAFING GEL was the exact same thing. It was and was what I used till a couple of years ago when my face became too dry. Now it's Hourglass primer or Benefit Tinted and Hydrating Primer.
@monicakm , I don't use primer on a regular basis. The only reason I use it is because I rec'd a primer in a BoxyCharm so since I had it, I am using it. Once it's gone, I will not buy another.
I see no use for primer. I think it's an extra step some people have been convinced that they need when they don't. If they want a primer fine but it's not necessary. I've had my make-up done a number of times professionally and none of the MUA have used a primer. IMO if I have to use a primer to get a foundation to perform the way I want it to perform, I'm either using the wrong foundation or the foundation isn't great. Also, not all foundations do well with all primers and I"m not buying several primers and messing around with matching them up to a foundation.
I do not have enlarged pores so I don't need anything pore filling. I use a good moisturizer so I don't need a dewy or moisturizing primer. I see no difference in the way my foundation looks with and without primer nor does my foundation last longer with primer.

I can't imagine not prepping my skin with a primer (and essence and moisturizer). Well, yes I can imagine because I forgot last weekend. I don't have enlarged pores either but my primer preps my skin like kind of a base coat on your nails, silkens it, smooths it or grips it. Kind of like painting or hanging wallpaper or staining a piece of wood...it's all in the prep work. And I have used the wrong type primer for the foundation I was wearing. I watch Angelica N on Youtube. She has always poo-pooed primers saying HER skin didn't need it. The last video I watched, she was using a primer and wondering how she could have been so wrong. If she mentioned which one, I didn't catch it. I haven't spent the last 25 years using it because I've been influenced to believe I need it. Heck, back then the phrase Youtube influencer wasn't a thing. The proof is right in front of me. But I can understand not wanting to take the extra step if you don't feel like it does anything.

I can't answer that as well as Google can. I just know some of them work and some of them don't (for me) and I have 2.5 decades of experience with primers. It's fine if you don't agree. As they say "you do you" I like them so I'll continue to use them.

@monicakm Yes. I have used Primer before when I was a MAC girl and still working. I went to Estee Lauder and in the beginning used her Primer before the Double Wear application. I saw no difference in my oxidation issue. None. It made me feel tight and taught and like I was in a hurry to get it off of my face. It mattes me too much. I have dropped Primers for a long time now. Especially since I need the extra moisturization. Extremely dry skin. Haven't found a Primer to help yet. I moisturize real well (cleanse/cream). I set with a spray for continued moisturizing. Not a setting poweder.

I don’t use primer every day, just if I’m especially dry.
@RollTide2008 that's why I don't use it. I have extremely dry skin. Didn't always, but I do now. Diuretics will do that!

What’s in primer that I’m not getting from moisturizer?
@RollTide2008 , it depends on the primer. Some of them are silicone based so they give your skin a very glass like feel and look. Some give added moisture, some are tacky for the make-up to stick to.
As I stated, I don't have uneven skintone, textured skin, large pores, etc. I use a moisturizer and serum every morning. I don't have a problem with my foundation sinking into my skin or wearing off unevently in patches.
Right now the moisturizer I am using claims to also have a primer built in.

I find using a primer before BE powder foundation seems to smooth some of the wrinkles, not all. As far as department store brand EL, I don't see any results at all with their skin care. Also I do not like their lipstick. Same goes for Lancome.

@granddi The best way to get to the bottom of your issue is to take the full list of ingredients and use the online websites which breakdown cosmetic ingredients and the reactions and side effects they cause. You can't attribute your reaction to just one ingredient without a analysis. Doing this might prevent you from exposure to the same ingredient or ingredients in other products. You also have to consider any other thing you put on your face as well as any possible internal effects you could have had from any substance. Same with any environmental influences. Is this the correct product? If so, you can see the ingredient breakdown..ewg.
