I WANT to wear PEACH, CORAL or APRICOT blush and lipstick

When I see new makeup shades, I am instantly drawn to the peach, apricot or coral shades.  I always love them most. I am a brunette with light skin and blue eyes.

I was visiting the Lancome counter, admiring some of those shades and the SA told me that with my coloring, those shades were out of the question. I've read similar beauty article saying the same thing.

I look ridiculous in pink or rose lipsticks and blushes.  No matter how lightly I apply them, I think they look cheap and silly me.

I can't understand why I am so drawn to something which is "out of the question" for me!

I have a peachy coral blouse and every single time I wear it, I always get compliments, more than with any other color I wear.  I don't get it. Help?

I know exactly what you mean,  I see nudes that are so pretty and on me, just awful

but I will say that changing my hair color opened up a new lip color to me,   more pinks than ever

I think you should wear what you like and what you feel you look good in.  Smiley Happy

Youngjude, I would give those colors a try. I have a golden tan warm skintone color, so I always gravitated towards peaches, and apricots as well, and while I love those best on me, I also broke out of my comfort zone and tried cool tones and with the right outfit, they look great.......

So go ahead and try it out.......Maybe start small..Like an inexpensive blush, or lippie.....

If you are "cool" coloring you CAN wear warm colors, but they need a little pink in them.  If they are too yellow, you'll just look dirty.  It works!

I'd find a friendlier, less bossy, Lancome counter! Buy whichever shades you will actually enjoy wearing or you will be wasting your money.

Is your skin tone warm or cool?  Until I held a sheet of white paper - at a window- to the inside of my arm, I had no idea how apricot toned my skin was.  I knew I looked awful in pink or rose, but always loved apricot & coral, & then I figured it out!

@Quinny,

I suspect you have a 'Spring' complexion color (Google it) and that is why you are drawn to the warmer peach, coral and apricot colors rather than to the cool-toned bubblegum pink colors.

If you get compliments every time you wear a peach colored garment, then you look good in warm tones.  Ignore the SA at the makeup counter and buy the colors you are attracted to.

@Quinny, forget the sales person who is paid to push products.  If you like those colors, then experiment and find what works for you, as in what you think looks good on you and what you like.  There is no reason why you cannot wear those colors.

Buy them, try them, decide for yourself if they are out of the question or look fantastic and go from there.

Some corals are more pink and some are more orange/apricot. You may find that corals that lean warm look better on you or that colors than lean cool look better on you. Or you may be neutral and they might both look great on you. Sometimes it's just a matter of choosing the right shade. I LOVE corals. I'm neutral and can wear both cool and warm shades, but I generally prefer slightly warmer corals and peaches instead of the cooler shades, but nothing too orange. It's worth trying out!

Try some out and get to know your own color range and then don't worry about what the Lancome lady says.
