You could do some highlights just in the front and it would blend in and soften the look of grey.
Do you agree with your stylist that your grey is "not a pretty color"? It's just her opinion.
I have read all about a guy named Jack Martin who strips the hair color totally out and then dyes the whole head grey. The pictures look great. It takes about 10 hours and your hair can become quite damaged from it. It then requires some upkeep.
I myself am growing out my bleached blonde/highlighted color. It's coming in a shiny silver in the front and blends fine with the rest of my hair. I actually like it. I also like the fact that I don't have to worry about roots.

My hairdresser fought me hard on going grey. She just shook her head and looked frustrated. Now she agrees it's a nice color and it's a good texture.

@Tessa Mendoza ...you make a good point about the pretty part. In the front my hair is getting light, like the color is gone but not grey yet, just at the root, so I cannot tell how bad it really looks. I am going by what she tells me at this point. If I could see more grey I would have a better idea.

...another question...when the stylist uses foil on the hair and wraps each section...is that hi lights and or low lights?
I wanted to discuss this with the stylist at my hair cut but under the current circumstances I didn't want to sit in her chair to long having a conversation.

@TVLand ...I don't know, hopefully someone will explain. I have just heard both terms.

As I understand it highlights are lighter pieces of color are dyed into your hair and lowlights are darker pieces of color are dyed into your hair.

Not a pretty grey? Didn't know there was such a thing, maybe your stylist doesnt want to lose a color client! My mother used to add a roux rinse to her hair after she shampooed. It cut the brassiness out of her hair and brightened the grey. It is not permenent, just a rinse.

@Tessa Mendoza My experience was the same as Jack Martin's videos on YouTube. A color specialist bleached out the accumulation of dark brown hair....started coloring in my 30's...was almost all silver then. I had to grow out the roots a few inches so she could see the silver color.
After a lot of bleach to get my hair to a palest yellow...almost white, she used a purple toner & another one to match my roots. Within 3-5 months of frequent cuts, all my silver hair had grown from the root area and was my own. As others have said, I never looked back or miss running my life around every 3 week appts.

@Mom2Dogs The hairdresser I was going to, not the color specialist, tried to convince me not to go grey, too. Of course she would. She'd lose a cash cow to the tune of $75 + tip every 3 wks.
A good stylist wants her client to have what she asks for and if she/he doesn't know how to take her to grey (probably the case) will refer you to another stylist who specializes in color.
