To my neck and to the bottom side of my cheek at the jawline is where I match my foundation. 👁👀👁👀👁👀👁👀
To decide what undertone you are, you should look at the color of the veins on the underside of your arm near your wrist. There are three main undertones. Cool, Warm and neutral. This does not work for MAC but is used for the other brands.
Cool undertone...veins appear blue or purple. You look best in silver jewelry.
Warm undertone...veins appear more greenish. You look best in gold jewelry.
Neutral undertone...veins appear bluish green. You look good in both gold and silver jewelry.

What is your shade intensity? How light or dark are you? There are variations within each category and many are between the major categories or change with the seasons. Use your neck to see. For me, light is too light and most mediums are a bit dark. I've been indoors because of the pandemic. I would call myself medium light right now.

@gertrudecloset Have you tried getting your make up done professionally and seeing what the professionals do, and how you like it? They will speak with you about your issues better than we can, since we can't see you. There must be beauty salons that cater to someone of your complexion somewhere that you can travel to. I know I am spolied because I live in New York and we have everything here, but there are brides everywhere and many get their make-up done professionally. Do you have a hairsalon that you go to? Many hair stylists do weddings, inlcuding makeup, and maybe they can do yours, or recommend someone who does. I think an appointment would be worth the expense.
I like to wear my makeup darker than my natural medium olive skin tone, to match my hands and arms. I blend to lighten coverage towards the neck. I like the IT CC cream illumination, which is not heavy and can be blended down to the lighter neck, which mine is, since I don't put the tan make-up on my neck that I put on my face.
I am not an expert, but agree with @Shanus that I wouldn't wear face make-up that that is lighter than my skin tone. Think of someone famous you know who does that. Do you like the look?

Wow @Mindy D those color profile charts are so interesting. I think I am a warm with neutral undertones. I am sure of the undertone (looking at the vein is easy), but will look again at the skintones. I will study the chart tomorrow. I am not "serious" enough about make-up to know any of this. Now I know what you all are writing about...
I look good in gold jewelry though!
My face skin is a little patchy and I find wearing heavy makeup just makes the patchiness more obvious. So this is something I am sensitive in picking make-up. I also don't like to spend too much time applying make-up, nor to use to many products. My patchiness is not super stark. Thinking maybe if I went to the derm, that they can treat that.

No, especially not now because of Covid. I did get help years ago when I started out with Estee Lauder, which is an excellent match. I don't like the formulation anymore (too mattifying). I'm much dier than I was before (medicine). Switched to Fenty when it came out, but still have trouble matching face through neck and chest. Since it's winter time coming up, not too worried about chest. Just neck and face for a seamless look.
I keep it simple. No bronzing, color correcting, concealers, baking, under eye, brow primers or anything like that. I wear minimal makeup. I don't mind a light weight buildable medium liquid, natural/radiant/luminous. No matte or powders for me. I also use a setting spray.

@Mindy DYou are a dear. Very thoughtful of adding to content that benefits others. Something you don't have to do, but you do all the time.
I am warm/neutral that I know. Can't find a good match both face and neck. They are different shades. Face is about two shades darker than neck. My problem is finding a good match that is not mattifying.
I've found a couple I'm gonna try and dump the Fenty color because it just doesn't work. I may wind up with a winter color and a Summer color. I've heard some women do this.

Are you trying to use foundation to make your skin all one color?
Or are you trying to use foundation to perfect each area?
I don't think my face, neck or chest all match. I am pretty fair and have a lot of pink in my skin and the chest area is definitely the pinkest. Which I hate! But like someone said, it's not the easiest to put foundation on the chest.... gets on clothes and doesn't really look great.
So with all that, I match my foundation, concealer, powders etc to my face. I don't put it all over... only in areas that need a little coverage (around nose, under eyes, above my brows and if I have a blemish) Then I use blur powder on my chest. Nothing on my neck but skin care. That seems to work for me.
I read somewhere from a MUA that our faces, necks, and chests don't match because the face and chest get more sun exposure. the neck is shielded somewhat by our chins (unless you're laying out in the sun)
