Aren't those two words pronounced differently? The former is spoken with the stress on the second syllable; the latter, with the emphasis on the first syllable.

I have been to Indonesia (where a great deal of Ikat it found) and it is NOT pronounced like either of those words. It is closer to "cat" than "caught" for instance. The "a" is not as long. More "cah" than "caw".
Not that any of this matters in the least.....
