Does anyone have a recommendation for store bought highlights kit?  I'ven been doing my roots and coloring my hair at home and I like the base color which has depth in it that it has some highlight to it but I think I need a little more.  My base color is a light brown with golden highlights (Clairol, that's the color on the box) so I',m hoping for just more golden (maybe a little honey tone) highlights. I don't want ashy, bold, light blonde.

Re: Highlights Recommendations

You need to have someone help you with the back of your hair.  It's very hard to make it even and natural looking.  Have fun with it.

Re: Highlights Recommendations

I just got highlights done yesterday.  I usually get only a partial but this time I told him to do the whole head but make it look very subtle and natural.  Along with a cut it was really expensive!  Took me off guard a bit but he did an amazing job.

I would be afraid to do my own highlights.  Good luck!

Might want to check into having 'money piece hair' done. Highlights around your face. Saves money and time if you go to a salon but you can attempt to do it yourself if you want.

I strongly recommend going to a salon for highlights. They are very easy to mess up! It can be quite tricky getting hair the right shade. I color my own hair but wouldn’t even attempt doing my own highlights.

@ScrapHappy   Revlon frost and glow in Honey.   Also they do have those kits that come with color and highlights.

Try going into a Sally's store, you can either get a kit, or you may have to pull some strands of hair and bleach in order to achieve the desired level of highlights.

The kits may come with everything and a cap which you pull hair through.   Foils are great, but they're difficult to do on yourself. Good luck 🙂

OP you are very brave!!! I would never try doing that to my hair in a million years---I use to get highlights years ago--my girl was a master at color and she loved doing it---she would do the most amazing things using a dark  and light color on my med brown hair---nothing over the top but so beautiful---and back then it was $75 including the cut-----so I had hightlights and low lights and got it done every 6 months---oh those were the days!!!! I just get a cut now----

L'Oréal Couleur Experte Express is one that comes with all over color and then a highlighting kit that coordinates with the permanent color. I have used it several times over the years. Even my stylist said she loved my hair and wanted to know what I had used. I figured if I goofed up the highlights I could just do the all over color again. Mine was lighter than you are wanting but they have several colors;  you could probably find a shade that is close to what you are wanting.

I have seen L'Oréal has a bayalage kit now...the info on their website makes it sound pretty easy and I like the results on one of the models...has anyone tried this yet?

When my children were young I used to color my own hair to save time and money.  I tried one of those home hightlight kits once and totally messed up my hair.  I stuck with my single process coloring until I could afford to go back to the salon for a professional highlight.  Right now I get a double process - roots, partial highlight and toner at the salon every 3 months.  In between I color my own roots.  Totally worth the time and money.
