Everyone has items they are willing to spend more on and items they are not willing to spend more on.

For me, I will go cheap on makeup usually (except for concealers, LOL) but not usually on skincare.

It's totally up to the individual, IMO.

OP, it strikes me that this is one of those threads started solely to "stir the pot".

Basically my choices and finances are no one's concern and this applies to each of us. End of a conversation that need never have been begun.

What's the difference? It's THEIR money and they can spend it on what ever they like! I do but highend cosmetics because I have very sensitive skin and I refuse to put drug store junk on my face! If others like drug store make up and it works for them....great! Don't criticize others for how they chose to spend THEIR money!

I continue to be amazed at the number of women on this forum who use and recommend high end cosmetics. Brands such as NARS, Laura Mercier, YSL, Chanel and on and on.

Do most women consider high end cosmetic expenditures as a necessary evil?

Do most women spend more money on their makeup than on their clothing?

I think even if I could afford to purchase a wardrobe of prestige makeup, I wouldn't do it. I think I'd prefer to spend that money on some very good quality wardrobe essentials or a very good quality handbag.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

I don't find her question that judgmental....maybe the words "amazed at" were a poor choice for the question she was asking.

As for me..yes, I have been "duped" by so-called "high-end" marketing (and have shelves of products to prove it!) heh

But through trial-and-error I seemed to have found a few product lines that are working for me...Alpha-Hydroxy, some SKINN and a few odds n ends.

Being results orientated--I just buy WHATEVER WORKS! Be it a $5 jar or a $50 jar..etc.

Am trying to use more natural stuff-like Witch Hazel..Oils..Baking Soda..etc.

"high end" is a very subjective term. You can pay $8.99, $24.00 or $50 for a mascara. How come no one ever talks about "middle end" here? {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} That's probably where most of us fall.

I am making a presumption, based on the fact this is a Beauty Board to say that most of us who do post here are interested in the subject of beauty. With that presumption, I will also suggest that most of us try products across the spectrum and make our choices based on what works best. I will also suggest that most of us have a mix of "low" "middle" and "high" end products in our arsenal. I know I do.

This subject comes up regularly and I can't help but think it's just an excuse for a little self-righteous preaching.

The only "high end" product I swear by is Laura Mercier cake liner. I still prefer Maybelline Great Lash mascara ($4.79) & drugstore BB cream, shadow & blush.

What difference does it make to you ??? Did anyone ask YOU to pay for their "high end" cosmetics?

Actually, when people buy on credit then don't pay for it we all DO PAY - in higher costs to all of us for use of banking services and credit card costs. So your very rude post doesn't even hold water.

Who said anything about people not paying for it? "rude post"? What's rude about it? Maybe you should take a long look in the mirror about the many rude posts you make. SMH

Boy, did you hit the nail on the head with your post.

{#emotions_dlg.lol} Thank you, ladies! I had 4" of rain in my basement to clean up today, and you gave me my chuckle for the day. Margo, your post is priceless, so true! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Oh, I feel you pain. Two weeks ago we had an absolute monsoon and our basement was underwater. Are you in the NY/NJ area?

re: the cost of cosmetics--OP--I won't count your money, please don't count mine.

I spend my $$$ as I wish, no debt, two career, empty nest, donate, volunteer....I can afford to purchase pretty much whatever I wish at this stage of life, and certainly don't waste my money! If I purchase whatever you consider "high end", it's really not YOUR concern, other than we keep the economy moving!
