Help with ExfoliKate

Hi - I recently discovered a jar of Kate Somerville's "Intensive Exfoliating Treatment" -- not sure when I ordered it but the exfoliator that she has on QVC now is in a tube instead of a jar. For those of you that have the jar, can you help me with a couple questions.

First, in the middle of the jar is a plastic piece -- is this meant to come out or stay in the jar? Secondly, what color is this product supposed to be -- if it should be white, mine is definitely way beyond the expiration date -- it's a green color.
