Could someone please help me w my hair? I had up until October long blonde hair. My regular beautician "butchered" my hair. I went back to her 3x to correct it and ended up w a hair cut above the ears. I am now in the horrible process of growing it back out....Anyway I needed a color and couldn't go back to her after all this so I attempted to color myself today with loreal preference "warm golden blonde" and now my hair is "reddish". What did I do wrong and how do I fix this? Thank you in advance for any responses. All advice is appreciated.

I would first tell you that you really should go to a hairdresser but I can give you some suggestions. If you are covering gray then a neutral blonde would do the trick, however the formula you chose with a gold base only made your roots appear too warm, or "reddish". I would buy the same level formula in ash and apply it only to the roots, leave on for the time suggested on the box and for the last five minutes add shampoo to the left over product and run it through the ends. However if your ends are a color you like, do not run the ash color over them as the hair there is very porous and it will grab the ash tone and appear too dull. Or you could use a lavender colored shampoo such as Shimmer Lights by Clairol to counteract the warmth in your hair.

Oh thank you! I'm gonna try the shimmer lights shampoo and see if that helps.

I would find a beautician that knows what they are doing and shell out what it takes to get the look you like or can live with during the regrowth process. I use an ash brown color because anything described as "golden" ends up with a reddish cast and after only a few weeks looks brassy. Almost every woman has had made hair color mistakes and recieved a bad haircut, and you just have to make the best of it.

Glad you got the help, lilbay, and in the future just use a blonde shade with the word Ash or Cool in front of it. The same applies to any hairdresser you go to.

I'm a natural brunette whose hair always 'pulls' red, and I have a feeling your hair is the same way.

BTW, the way you graciously asked for assistance, with the word "please" in the thread's title and "please" & "thank you" in your first post, is exactly what I really wish all posters in the Q community would do here, and in every single forum. It's a real shame that such manners have often fallen by the wayside, especially as the person in need is asking for assistance, where others would have to take the time to help out.

Well, at least most times, LOL.

Hugs to you, sweetie, and I bet you're totally rockin' the shorter hair, which always highlight's one's unique bone structure. 8-)

You need a lighter, NEUTRAL shade to counteract this. I wouldn't use an ash since it might give you green overtones now---unless you go REALLY light. Good luck. There are toners you can buy at Sally's to fix, but I would just wait a couple of weeks and use a beige blonde next time.
