I have a lip balm with 1% hydrocortizone in it for inflammation. It's called CrotiBalm and I got it from Amazon. It's not something to be used continually, though. Luckily, I haven't needed to use it in quite awhile.
Other than that, I suggest the doctor. I had a pimple-like bump on my lip a few years ago that just wouldn't go away. My doctor prescribed a cream for it. It still took a long time to go away, so not an instant fix.

It could be anything. IMO you should see your doctor, I dont think there is a reason to see a dermatologist. If there is your doctor will refer you. I think your family doc could give you some cream to apply to heal your lips. It could be anything from allergic reaction or caused by stress.
I dont think over the counter products will help. Dont waste your money on them.

I would definitely see your primary care physician. Your symptoms could be several things but there are some diseases that cause those symptoms including lupus, sjogren's, chron's, celiac. Go have it checked out.

I had a lip condition called cheilitis. I read here about Cortibalm so I decided to give it a try and it worked! It's available on Amazon. I should mention that I had tried many products before I found Cortibalm and been to the doctors (but not a dermatologist) It has been the only thing that actually worked and I highly recommend.

Absolutely - I switched from Colgate to 'Burt's Bees' toothpaste, very gentle and non-irritating!

@mspemberley I also used Cortibalm for the one time I had chielitis and it cured it in a day! Also, in case you ever want a lip balm recommendation, I recommend Flexitol lip balm for the winter season or year round as a way to maintain soft lips. I use it every morning and night and my lips are super duper soft- and lipstick and lip gloss wears very nicely over it. Flexitol lip balm is even better than the popular candy flavored Laniege lip balm that's $20 that I tried and way cheaper too. I got the Flexitol lip balm on Amazon. ![]()

@Squirrel Lover , look into a Lysine lip ointment. I buy it from Amazon. It helps heal lip sores, while keeping them soft and hydrated.

Make sure before applying any balm or moisturizer that you exfoliate the lips with a lip scrub first. You need a smooth canvas to start with
