@NameAlreadyTaken wrote:See a dermatologist. I have had that issue all my life. Never went to a dermatologist. Spend thousands of dollars on OTC products. Saw dermatologist in February and by August, I looked like a different person. It was gradual, but the skin stopped flaking. I am still using the product covered by my insurance but if it were not, I would try to find a way to pay for it although it is not very expensive. If I tell you, others might say it did not work for them, so my point is what works for one will not for the other and your best bet is to see a specialist and let him/her decide what works for you.
@Nonametoday, I would add that I have read less than glowing reviews on some of the products touted here. In fact, I recall several posters who had irritation as a result of one in particular. Besides, next week the touting person will probably be onto a new product.
Personally, I never recommend anything that I use and like as the best thing for someone else. A visit to the derm seems like the best first option.

Hi, I have dry skin, very dry due to autoimmune diseases, which hypothyroid can be one of them, but any of them causes systemic changes, including in our skin. I had these before I even was aware I had the ( a number of them) diseases.
You shoud talk to your Internist about seeing a rheumatologist for some labs, or your internist should be able to to the bloodwork with added IG's.
The reason I suggest a specialist is they often do additional labs. My doc at Hopkins also draws research labs with markers they're working on and can pickup things that the regular tests cannot yet pickup. It's always better to go to a big teaching and research hosptial if you can for anything out of the norm.
One thing I do love is Perricone's Chia Seed serum. I've tried many oils, including JM Argan, Chia is superior for my skin, and plain ole extra virgin olive oil, but make sure it is real olive oil by the certification on the bottle- there have been problems with that.
p.s. I'm not saying you have any medical thing going on, just a thought to keep in mind if changes dont fully work or you experience other odd things.
good luck!

An Omega-3 fish oil supplement made a world of difference for me. But ask your doctor first. It thins the blood, for one thing.
Also, your doctor may want to do some blood tests to rule out a medical cause for your dry skin.

Thank you all for your suggestions and concerns. I appreciate it! It's had to get my Dr. to refer me to a dermatologist but i'm going to give it a try again. She usually just gives me the name of some product like Cetaphil which doesn't work for me. So frustrating.
I guess the SSC A line is retinol product so I'm definitely going to stop using it.
Has anyone tried R+F? Apparently they have a regime called Soothe.
Also thinking of trying Algenist?
Or Paula's Choice again.
Thanks everyone.
