I know just what you mean.  I am in my mid 60’s and developed several larger brown spots on my cheek.  Noticeable.  They would fade and then get darker with the seasons depending on my sun exposure.   I went to a dermatologist to get them checked because they were irregular shaped.  Luckily, the doctor said they were the result of years in the sun and age.  Ok.  They were not a health problem and only cosmetic.  I considered this good news.  My girlfriend has had hers treated and they did fade but they did not completely go away.  I decided to use IT cosmetics concealer and IT CC foundation.  This is a satisfactory solution for me.

Thanks all, I had skin cancer on my nose and had a  horrific 4 hour surgery to get rid of it. I better go to a derm to check this out. Although it is flat, it has irregular borders and I dont want to have to go thru another surgery.

I have age spots and embrace them. I've earned them. It shows I have enjoyed my life outdoors! I get checked twice a year by a derm to keep everything in check.

Go to a dermatologist and get it diagnosed.  If an age spot, ask him or her to freeze it off (cryotherapy).  I had a large one and it cost about $150?  It is cosmetic procedure, so I was charged.  It then crusted and oozed for a few days and was gone.  You will spend more money with lotions and potions trying to fade it and it won't fade to the extent that you want - get it zapped off.
