Help! How to make epilator less painful??? Thanks

Hi; I'm using the newest epilator by Emjoi. I purchased specifically to use on my legs as I'd do anything to escape the daily grind of shaving, ugh! I find it extremely painful; any tips on how to make it less painful? Anything that I can do to make it less painful--I think maybe sitting in a warm bath for a while prior to and also exfoliating, aside from that, anything else I can do? Thanks!

When the hosts show it, they show using it in a different way than the instructions. The instructions show short, quick "swipes". I would suggest just doing a bit at a time, with a break in between. Perhaps on a weekend. It's pulling the hair out, so it's going to smart. Opening the hair follicles with a warm bath may help.

A bottle of wine might help!

I find that it is less painful if the hair on my legs isn't too long. I usually shave first then use my epilator to maintain everything as it starts to grow back.

Thanks ladies; I'm going to try your ideas, because I really want this to work. The first time I used it I came out of a hot bath and didn't notice it being so bad; last night, it was nothing short of a what I call a total and complete Ouch-Fest!!!

I had another brand epilator years ago. They recommended that your legs be dry, without moisturizer. Also use a loofah (sp?) on your legs first to make the hair stand up.

I think I've had four through the years. The first time I used one, I could only do a little at a time. It really hurt. The second and third times, it was a less uncomfortable. But by the fourth or fifth time I used the epilator, there was little or no discomfort. You just have to work with it a little. Now I use it without any sensation at all. Give it time, and you'll be sooooo glad you bought it and used it. Saves time and all those razor snags. And as you continue to use it, seems to me the hairs stop growing. Good luck, and Happy Thanksgiving.

The first time you switch over from shaving it can be very, very difficult. Been a while for me but as I recall it took many small sessions over several days to get them both done. After that there was no problem and after a while you will not even notice since there are so many less hairs per session.

Someone told me to go get waxed before trying it the first time so all the pain is over with at once. Don't know, but that actually sounds like it would work.

Once you get over this bump in the road, it will never be as bad.

Just stick with it! I bought the Emjoi last January. I was not immediately sleek and hair free. I started with my lower legs, and it was uncomfortable at first. I think within a week or two it barely hurt. I then started on my upper legs. This was slightly more uncomfortable and still isn't pain free, but is not too bad. I was terrified to do my underarms. It took me a while to get the courage. It did hurt! I took my time and did a little each day. Now it doesn't hurt at all. I'm currently working on my bikini line. It hurts, but I do a little bit each day. I've tried my face a few times, and it hurt. I haven't gotten really serious in that area yet.

Now that I've been doing it a while, I can go a week without hardly any hair coming in. It's great! I know it has already paid for itself since I haven't had to buy any razors or shaving cream. Keep at it!

Re: Help! How to make epilator less painful??? Thanks

The first time was so painful but if you keep with it and epilate once / twice a week it will become much less painful… Its so worth not having to shave every 2-3 days. My hair is very dark brown and shows up even if its a few millimeters in height and it used to be really thick and coarse. After epilating even once the hairs get much thinner and more sparse. A good trick is to try exfoliating in the shower before epilating. I find that it gets the hair easier on the first try and you get more hair. Make sure to put on lotion afterward.

I've just started to epilate my chin and jawline with the sensitive cover and it is pretty painful but you do get used to it!
