I've gone on the assumption that companies know the conditions their products will have to endure..............and they package and then pack in an appropriate manner. In some areas of the country, people live in heated conditions if they can't afford a/c. I think companies plan for this.
If consumers were to get products that changed in color or consistency, or leaked or smelled, they'd be sent back and the companies would have to eat the losses.
The only experience I've ever personally encountered related to shipping chocolate. Godiva! Either they didn't ship or used insulated packages, overnight delivery.
