Heat during shipping does this affect beauty products? Concerns?

Now that we are in summer, and dealing with heat during shipping, I wonder how much harm it causes to beauty products. I received my Isomers skin care TTS and Vit C kits today, and the cartons were warm. I know that UPS treats beauty items no different than clothes or shoes. Earlier thread had a discussion about air exposure and contamination with products in jars. How about heat for several days during shipping?

Well, we talked about this last year. I refuse to order anything that will melt in the summer. Or I pay very careful attention to the weather. I wish they'd ship beauty products like food, packed in ice.....

The only thing the heat has affected for me was a flameless candle I bought...the beauty products have been fine.

I've received oils that have leaked in the heat. I opened a tube of Lavanilla body cream tonight & it was like soup & separated. My stuff comes through Phoenix though & sometimes sits over the weekend before it's trucked up. Then UPS doesn't come till 6 or 7 pm. I have to be careful with orders in the summer.

Yes...makes me wonder how it impacts the ingredients since they recommend to not expose the products to heat or light. The serum bottles are dark for that reason, but what about the shipping process? They must know the products are exposed to heat for multiple days. Unless the product smells funky, which indicates spoilage, how would we know if the products have been negatively impacted? We use it and if no results we think oh the product wasn't effective. What if heat exposure damages effectiveness? I agree about limiting shipments of beauty during summer. Thx

I've gone on the assumption that companies know the conditions their products will have to endure..............and they package and then pack in an appropriate manner. In some areas of the country, people live in heated conditions if they can't afford a/c. I think companies plan for this.

If consumers were to get products that changed in color or consistency, or leaked or smelled, they'd be sent back and the companies would have to eat the losses.

The only experience I've ever personally encountered related to shipping chocolate. Godiva! Either they didn't ship or used insulated packages, overnight delivery.

I won't buy makeup or skin care products over the internet during the hot summer months due to the heat potentially ruining makeup. I also move much of my skin care and makeup out of my bathroom due to the heat.

Agree on both points. I don't believe that the products can endure extreme heat and separation without some damage. And unfortunately, I don't think the vendors consider it. A sale is a sale. They are not going to stop shipping in the summer months to ensure quality and they don't change packaging to adjust for the conditions. They need the revenue. If someone complains, they will just send replacement product or refund. I'm not ordering any other beauty items for shipment until after the summer heat subsides.

I'm sure that extreme heat - or cold - affects a product. But that applies to products we buy from a B&M as well, not just those that have been shipped to us directly. These items may sit in a truck, or warehouse for periods of time as well. So you can never be sure that any product is fresh.

I asked a Philosophy rep about this once and she told me their products are tested and proven to withstand extreme temperatures.
