I used to like it too, until I discovered Lancome's Teint Idole stick foundation which is a better color, goes on like velvet, and lasts much longer looking very nice for many hours. I find when a foundation disappoints many times too much is applied.
With a stick formula I swipe it on lightly in the areas needing the most coverage, then blend with fingers lightly, and finish with a good foundation brush that smooths and blends it all in, again with a light touch or you will scrub most of it off or actually highlight pores.
I learned at a cosmetic counter how to do this - I had always put on too much and blended it too heavily: disaster!
She used feather light strokes and could add and blend more product at the end to areas needing it so that the whole look was very natural and smooth, beautiful.
I also like L'Oreal, BM Complexion Rescue, and a Revlon one that is matte. Applied carefully they can all look great.
