Re: Hand Cream for Men

[ Edited ]

When the weather here turns cold, DH will put on gloves even if he is just going for a walk or out to his garage to get something.  If he doesn't, his thumbs split open.

Try using CeraVe Healing Ointment.  CVS carries it and if you have a coupon it will bring the price down.  I think they just started to make it in a smaller tube...less expensive.

I started to use this on my fingernails which suddenly decided they wanted to peel and break.  Put it on before bed and again next morning:  wonderful results.  Found out about it from this board.

Good Luck.

IF you can get him to do it, I'd recommend that he loads up on Bag Balm at night and cover his hands with a pair of old white socks while he sleeps.  Bag Balm is is the consistency of a petroleum jelly and is used by many farmers to treat chapped, cracked cow udders, but it works on people too.  Your husband can use the Bag Balm in the morning too, just not as thick.  If he wants something a little more on the cream side that rubs in better, there's a product at Bath and Body Works called "Look Ma, New Hands" (Amazon has it too).  Both of these products contain parrafin, to help seal and hold moisture in.  The parrafin actually creates a bit of a barrier that prevents the cream from washing off the first time the user gets in water, too.  Make sure he keeps up on his water consumption too.

DH likes The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector. It makes his hands really soft. I don't really care for the scent but it does not bother him.

  I second O Keefe's.  It's amazing!  They also make a foot cream that's great. I buy it at our Army Navy Surplus Store but I'm sure many places have it, they probably have a website you can order from if you don't want to go out.

My husband and I both love O"Keeffe's Working Hands. I have purchased from CVS and Walmart.

O'Keffee's Healthy Feet is also very good.

@hovis

I have found that using soap that contains goat milk as a first ingredient such as what is found on goatmilkstuff dot com or bendsoap dot com may eliminate the problem without him having to use any cream at all, although both sites also offer them. If you go to goatmilkstuff dot com you can read about the husband and co-founder of this company who overcame this very problem by using their handmade goat milk soap. I have been using it head to toe for over a month now and can't say enough about it. I've been using an oatmeal and honey goat milk soap on my face and my skin feels like velvet afterwards. Love it! When I use these soaps on my hands, there is no need for lotion.

Third for the Okeefes. My husband also likes one from Neutrogena that's an intensive hand treatment. He usually just applies that one to the backs of his hands during the day, then all over at night.
