Hi Ladies,

Everytime I go to the hairdressers I ask for long layers so I can curl  it  as it is so straight. So I get the layers put in and when I go and curl it it does nothing no curls at all. What exactly do I need to ask for. This has happened several times and I have gone to 2 different hairdressers and they are popular hair places in my  area and not cheap. any recommendations would be appreciated. TIA

sounds as though your hair is too straight to take a curl

Do you use styling products that will help hold the curl?

Would you consider a body wave or a perm?

@cuddlesmamaI agree with @jackthebear that your natural hair may not be able to take a curl on its own, but there are also other things to consider:
- amount of hair/thickness
- the cut/length (too long and the weight can pull the curl out - don't go longer than shoulder length)
- finding the right styling products and not over using them
- using the right styling tools to give the best end result (velcro rollers, hot rollers, curling iron, curling brush)
- using a finishing spray, but not overdoing it
- resisting the urge to fix or freshen up your look throughout the day

After all these are addressed and you still can't get your hair to curl, consider a body perm.

In my own experience, I have one side of my hair that curls better than the other.   I get the best results when using a root lifter, a light styling product, and metal barreled velcro rollers that I put in on lightly damp hair, then hit each roller with the blow dryer to heat them and finish the drying.  After allowing them to cool, I carefully remove the rollers (unroll, don't pull) and just use my fingers to rough up the root a little and finish the style.  I then use a little finishing spray.  On a good day, it looks nice and will stay, but depending on the weather, my hair can look great in the bathroom and 5 minutes after I'm out the door it "falls" so I always have to take that, or whatever my activities will be, into consideration.  I'm also considering a body perm but just not sure I want to take that step yet.

Square Peg + Round Hole = A Zillon $$$ Haircare Business.

If more people just embraced their natural hair characteristics,

Life would be so much better....guaranteed.

My hair is so fine and straight you can't curl it or put it up for any amount of money.  It might stay 15 minutes, then it simply slithers back to what it wants to be.

I have a not very long layered cut that I can fluff up and it has some lift but curl?  No way!  It is thick and can easily be fluffed up, but not curled.
