I am wondering if Chaz has addressed coloring hair as being damaging, since he is about not damaging hair. My hairdresser says all color is damaging. I bring this up because I just made an appointment with my colorist, and am thinking about a Wen purchase. I know he has talked about heat and other hair tools as being damaging. Also, I think he calls himself a master colorist?? Thanks!

I'm a stylist. I agree with your stylist that all color is damaging. However, the good ingredients in wen can offset any damage. Plus with wen you only need to apply at the regrowth so it's only being applied one time. When you pull through due to fading you get more damage. Since you're not doing that it helps.

I color my hair often and use Wen and my hair has never been in better condition. I stopped highlighting my hair a few years ago and decided to let my natural color grow back in. Well, it did as well as quite a bit of grey. My hairdresser had moved so when I found a new one she recommended the highlights and lowlights. (My natural shade now is dark brown) It was better than seeing grey but the dark color of my hair aged me. I had consultations with other hairdressers and they advised the same because of the dark color of my hair. Well, I've watched Wen for years and finally decided to give it a try. What a difference it made in both the condition of my hair (fine) and my coloring options. I finally found a hairdresser that is a master at coloring and between the two I have the hair (color and condition) that I always was trying to achieve. The Wen has kept my color in and I only need to touch up the new growth of hair. If I had not experienced this, I would not have believed it. Give it a try. I hope you have the same happy results that I have,

I'm not a hair stylist, but there is a difference in hair coloring products. Some are more harsh than others. The brand Chaz uses at his salon is L'Oreal Majirel and Inoa, which are ammonia-free. Chaz is being realistic - he knows we are going to color our hair, use heated styling tools, WEN was made to counteract the damage

I color to get rid of my gray that started coming in a few years ago. I will say that since I switched to Wen back in March I only have to color my regrowth every 6 weeks maybe instead of the 3-4 weeks I was on. It was really making a mess of my hair and I actually was suffering through the grays as long as I could because I just couldn't dry out my hair that often with the color. My hair was becoming a mess and I like it long without having to chop it every few months or so to get rid of the damage.

He's right that the sulfate free shampoos do wash out the color and quickly too and it really showed on dark hair like mine even with only washing it once or twice a week. Not having to buy color and take the time to do that every single month is worth it for me. My mother is a hairdresser (although I do my own over the counter color) and she said my hair has never looked better. I think so too.

I believe he addressed "coloring hair as being damaging" by creating Wen. Yes, he is a colorist/stylist.

I have highlighted my naturally blonde hair since the late 1960s. Never had a stylist want to do it since my little Clairol Frost & Tip kit give me just the right mix of shades, so natural looking, etc. that even master colorists say their results would not be any better, if as good.

Tried WEN, but it turned my hair a hideous orangy brassy color. More orange than gold, even.

Didn't realize til I started really paying attention that in all the BEFORE and AFTER split screens, yes, all the models' hair color is MUCH darker in the AFTER (current) photos...MUCH MUCH MUCH darker.

So between the horrible discoloration and the immediate hair loss from the few times I used it before sending it back, I steer clear of that stuff.

Thank you ladies. You all connected the dots for me that Chaz colors hair (which damages), yet he is concerned with damage. If I may ask one more question in an effort to try to get the right formula - I have really thick, straight, heavy hair, no scalp issues. I do wash every day, not frizzy, can't think of any other way to describe my hair....any formula recommendations?

With no hair issues, I would suggest you start with one of the discovery kits. A217139 has 4 16 oz bottles of the 4 most popular formulas, A213203 has Sweet Almond Mint and Tea Tree, A219409 has the 6 core formulas in 6 oz bottles. Getting one of these sets lets you try several without committing to a big size and decide which ones you and your hair like.

Chaz will be back this weekend thru the end of the month and will be having some specials, so you might get a good deal then.

With Wen you can wash your hair as often as you want and it will only be good for it, not harmful. That said, there will be formulas that work better for you. I think Fig is the one recommended for color treated or damaged hair. I have fine hair and like it too so I don't think it's too heavy. Tea Tree also seems to be a popular choice for most of us. I also added it to my arsenal. If you don't have any other issues/concerns I would start with one of those and go from there. Oh and the new Summer Honey Peach seems to be well-loved by most. You can read more about it on other threads so I won't go into more about it here. Good luck!
