Read this from "allure" magazine.

For best look - stay close to natural hair color.  Our features all blend together for the right look.

Don't go too dark if you are older - it is very harsh

No stripe-y highlights

Blondes must be very careful with what shade they use

Don't do a bright color at home - have salon do more "out there" colors

There is a model on QVC (middle aged) that has way too dark hair and it looks way too harsh for her.  She would be so much more attractive with some shades lighter!

Good tips, @hyacinth003!

And I know just who you are talking about -- the model with the darker hair. There's a host, too, that in my opinion would look better if her hair were a shade or even two lighter.

These are great tips @hyacinth003. Thanks. So I guess I'll have my hairdresser do the "out there" colors like hot pink or purple. I see women all the time with these wacky colors. Woman Happy

I color my hair as close to my own hair color so when it grows out I don't have a drastic color change from roots to my hair. You really cannot tell any difference when it grows out.

My younger sister wants blonde hair but she has light brown hair so it does not look good on her. She looks so washed out but you cannot tell Miss America that. LOL!!!

I was a colorist for years and there is usually a color blonde for everyone but she is probably using the wrong "tone" of blonde and that is what is  washing her out.

Re: Hair color tips

[ Edited ]

If I stay with my natural color, that would be black. But then black is too harsh?? I'm Asian and I don't color my hair, no gray just pure black. Woman Happy

ETA...imo Asians who color their hair don't look right to me. It always looks off somehow.

I'm 58.  My natural color is a med dark brown (when there isn't gray sprinkled in).  I use the Deeply Brown/Espresso color by Loreal Feria.  I've asked several people to please be honest with me and tell me if it's too dark for me (at my age).  100% of them said no, it's not too dark and looks good (not harsh).

No, I don't think so. It's your natural hair color!

Clearly, the model & host I was referring to and think that @hyacinth003 was referring to, does not have dark-dark hair as their natural hair color.
