Hair appt Dec 13 fancy salon

been going to Supercuts for trims (layered bob, just above my collar). Decided to splurge on a visit to an Aveda salon. You take a goofy quiz online to get matched with a stylist. 🙄 for my $75 I will have a consultation, shampoo, cut and style. Looking for advice from stylist on how to maximize volume on my fine, slightly thinning hairs (all over, not one area in particular). Open to a cut as long as I don't lose much length on the sides. Looked at photos of stacked bobs. Love that look. But will likely defer to the expert as to whether my hair will do that. Guess I feel like being pampered in a tony salon just once. 😊

Supercuts now charges over fifty bucks for shampoo, cut and blow style! I mean this is a place with high turnover, no frills, stylists skill set varies greatly. This was ok with me when the services I got cost $23.

@smoochy

I think you'll find this Tati hair video very helpful and interesting.  I've never heard of this guy but apparently, he's quite well known.  He also answers questions from her viewers.  This is the name of the video and it's not just about extensions, some of which are about thin hair and products.  He isn't pushing a particular brand.

Re: Hair appt Dec 13 fancy salon

I am actually off to a salon later this afternoon.

During my younger years I certainly did go to some of the very best salons in the area for treatments, and paid lots and lots of money.

What I have discovered over the decades is it is the HAIRDRESSER that matters the most, not the salon. Once DH and I find an excellent person, we go to those same people as long as they still work, and follow them wherever they go!

Have a wonderful and productive time.

@smoochy ................I think you will really like the Aveda Salon.  I went regularly to one for years.  I love their products and the wonderful smells.  Their candles are the best.  Enjoy and have fun.

@Imaoldhippie    I agree about the hair care products, body care and candles. I go to an Aveda salon. It's expensive because where I go they specialize. You have stylists who cut and style and colorists who do the chemical treatments. In the salon that I use the hairdressers compete 2 extra years of training and while they are doing this they are in a new talent program where their work is supervised.

For years I went to a mom and pop shop and they had no idea how to cut my hair. I have what is referred to as difficult hair to cut. To me it is worth the money to have a professional cut my hair.

Re: Hair appt Dec 13 fancy salon

@smoochysounds good to me.  I've only been to an Aveda salon once.  I've been going to my hairdresser for years.  She gives great perms, so I don't dare leave her.  She charges $65 for a wet haircut (includes shampoo & condition).  I dry and style my own hair while I'm there, but I doubt I get any sort of discount for that.

I'd really love to go to a curly specialist once to see if I could get a better cut, but whe would know and I can't take the chance.

I was at the Ophthalmalogist's office yesterday and the lady who you pay and schedule with has the most beautiful head of curly gray hair.  And she owns it.  Of course, as my hairdresser always tells me when I show her a pic of something I like "She's got more hair than you do".

Re: Hair appt Dec 13 fancy salon

My stylist always gives me a great cut!  I've never had a bad one from him so far and have been going to him for over two years.

However he is expensive and now is charging $100.00 just for a cut.  Is it worth it?  To me it is since I wear my hair everyday and it makes me feel good to have a nice style that looks good on me.  I have had my share of lousy cuts in the past!

I'm going to him on Thursday for some highlights since I haven't had them done since the end of May and my hair is mostly just dark brown.  I need some brightening up around my face.  He also does a great job with color.

He owns his own salon and has a good following.  I have gone to both no name salons and high end ones.  It really depends on how good the stylist is.

Before going to my current stylist I went to another independent stylist who had been recommended to me.  She was very nice but gave me lopsided cuts.  The final straw was when I was going out to California for a wedding and my hair looked terrible after going to her.

I hope you have a good experience and best of all a great cut!
