I read an article today that Hair Masks help thicken your hair. When we use heated tools on our hair clarifying shampoos, etc. we need to rehydrate the hair so it was said that Hair Masks are a must. The picture below is a mask that had the lowest price of $11. Others were $28, $36, $42, etc. Carol's Daughter also has one. So you basically spend as much as you want. Apparently, it is good practice to use once a week.

Seriously doubt this works KatCat1. Illusion at best.

@ahoymate It could be the woman that stated this had really stressed hair andwhen she used the product it felt like her hair was thicker. Let's face it, Hair Mask is a new name for a deep conditioner but with some extras.

I'm not a hairdresser (so this is not a professional opinion). But, I have a dear friend that owns a salon and I've always been into hair care. I do use hair masks at least once a week. I haven't found one that helps my hair grow. However, my hair is prone to breakage (based on coloring, texture, etc). Its my understanding (and I've noticed), masks penetrate moisture deeper into the strands of hair. When my hair is more moisturizered (hence, softer), it doesn't tangle as easily. Therfore, I'm more gentle with my hair and it helps the strength and overall health. I've used several Shea Moisture and they have all been very nice. On the higher end, swear by Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me Masque. Putting the price aside, it is a value. A little goes a long way. A bottle had lasted me over 6 months.

@Mellyg Thanks for your informative reply. It's good to know that the hair mask does help and what it actually does to the hair. I use a Scalp Scrub by Nexxus once a week sometimes every 2 weeks to really clean up any build up on hair and scalp.

Do you use a heat cap with the conditioner? I had to replace the one I had from high school. Using one without heat does nothing for me.

I'm wondering as well what seperates a hair mask from just a really deep conditioner. Is it the application (heat cap as mentioned above)? Or leaving it on overnight?
I've done with deep conditioners before (overnight application).....

I haven’t used a deep conditioner in a long time. I use regular conditioner every time I shampoo. Lately, I’ve been thinking I need something more. I’ve noticed my hair looks drier after shampooing & blowing dry. I always use heat protectant before blow drying. Never had a problem until recently. Maybe it’s age - hair changes after menopause?

@wilma My hair definitely changed with menopause ![]()
Very thin, dry on the ends, and stringy looking.
Funny how the volume of my waist line blossomed and the hair wilted ![]()
