So I just started this week washing my hair every other day upon recommendation from my stylist.

It's driving me crazy! I used to wash my hair daily.

She said that the oils in your hair will not be so oily and normalize in a couple of months. Is that true?

I have naturally light hair, and I'm trying to make it darker, don't want to wash all the color out.

Hi Dublingrl! Am I understanding this correctly: You've darkened your hair color and don't want to wash out the color........by washing too frequently?

I've read suggestions to us dry shampoos in between shampoos. They have improved greatly in quality in recent years. Certainly not as bad as when I was a teenager in the 60's......lol.

And be sure to use a hair spray or thermal mist that protects color.

Thanks Irishrose, you always offer sound advice.

To answer your question, I have dark blonde hair and I had my stylist color it a chestnut brunette, which I love, but it's fading to blonde again, so I'm trying to shampoo less - per my stylist recommendation.

The problem is that I feel at the end of day 2 my scalp is oily. I'll try it for a while and see how it goes.

Thank you, Dublingrl! {#emotions_dlg.blushing} I am but a neophyte....lol......still learning from our Beauty Gurus who have been here much longer than I!

When I was younger, I had to wash my hair every day. When I got older and colored it and permed it, the oil wasn't as annoying. Or maybe it's just diminishing hormones with age. See what you can look forward to. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Dublingrl, I feel bad that no one else has responded. Maybe the forums are slow tonight. Hopefully you'll get more responses tomorrow. It would be nice if someone could give you first-hand reviews. Smiley Happy

Hmmm. I wish I had some expert advice for you. I would try to stick with it for awhile and see if your scalp and hair do normalize a bit. If it gets to the point where you can't stand it, then maybe try a bit of dry shampoo. They have a ton of them out there now. Also, if you just can't stand it and must wash every day, make sure to use shampoos and conditioners that are specially made for color treated hair. They are much more gentle and will not fade the color as much. Good luck!

It is hard to convert from daily washing to every other day, as I made that transition some time ago, primarily because I wanted to prevent dry hair. It may seem like it extends color, but I don't use anything that really strips it, and of course, there is always the new growth.

Aloe vera gel will freshen things up on the day you don't wash. And my new love is horsetail extract. I'll gently massage that in, even throw in a drop of oil, sometimes hitting it w/ the blow dryer, and then I steam set w/ Caruso (if I want more oomph).

Something about the horsetail that really makes hair feel great...substantial (though I don't have thinning hair), but still prevents breakage.

I have read before and my stylist tells me that hard water strips color faster. Just something to think about. I wash mine every other day and just use conditioner when I don't wash. Works for me!

how about washing daily but every other day use a cowash or cleansing conditioner?
