Hair Coloring Question

I am coloring my teenage sons hair. I figure if he didn't care for it we can just cut his hair short for summer. We live in Las Vegas and he plays sports so he is ok with taking a chance. I bought a medium brown color, Demi permanent and permanent developer, 20 volume. Can I mix them. Are there any stylists that could give advice? I bought the bottle right next to the color and didn't look until I got home. What makes it worse is that he has the most gorgeous auburn hair. He has never colored it before because his school would not allow it. I bought Kenra (professional). Can anyone help.
