I'm hoping a colorist will see this, because I'm getting mixed responses and would love to hear from someone who is knowledgable in this area. If anyone else has experience with this, I would love to hear from you too!
Is there something magical about the conditioner that comes in at-home hair color kits?
I've been coloring my hair at home for years, always with good results. Recently I started using a new conditioner and it has made my uncontrollable hair so much nicer! Yesterday I colored my hair and used the conditioner that came in the box, as I always do. Today my hair is much more flyaway and unmanageable, and I'm wondering if it would be okay to use my new conditioner after I color my hair next time. (The new conditioner I have been using is formulated for color-treated hair.)
I called the manufacturer today, and was subjected a lot of double-talk, with the bottom line apparently being that only their conditioner will lock in the color. I realize that I can do whatever I want (hopefully, the Hair Color Police will not take me away in handcuffs if I don't use the one that comes in the box!), but I'm really curious about this. TIA to all who respond!
