I have always head nice toned arms. I attributed them to working out at the YMCA on the resistance machines. However, recently as I have been losing weight, they were getting flabby and so I thought there was no help for that. It has been cool here this winter so I have not been swimming as much as normal for me. Lately, the weather has turned to summer, hot sun and high humidity so we have been swimming every day, and without even noticing it, I have gotten back my toned arms, and even the forearms have toned up. My DH has noticed that his arms have also gotten considerably more toned as well. A great bonus - and no sweating or pain required. I am also losing in my butt - double bonus!! I guess it is all that kicking. We go to an olympic size pool and swim at least 10 laps every day the weather permits.

Re: Great looking upper arms

I know many women struggle with upper arm flaps and are not able to do the kind of exercise that helps this - but almost everyone can swim. They tell you at the Y that the water supports 80% of your body weight so it is very good for folks like arthritics to exercise in the water. This is also an extremely good way for someone who has not exercised in a long while - or never- to get started on an exercise routine. I started with water aerobics after I had ankle surgery and I was in a wheelchair for 5 months. I was horribly out of condition, could barely walk from one end of my house to the other. The PT discharged me, but I was far from well, and did not know what to do. My doctor sent me to a rehab specialist who suggested i join a gym with a water aerobics program, and that was the first step back to relative good health.
