I am attending an engagement party for my cousin tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. I am struggling with gift ideas, as I am told that an engagement party is basically a meet and greet for both families, and not gift giving.

I'm not comfortable showing up without a gift. I plan on picking up a card, along with that, does anyone have any recommendations on a small gift idea. Also, if anyone can offer advice on etiquette regarding engagement parties, I greatly appreciate it!!

My DS and his now wife were given an engagement party last Summer, they recieved several Congratulation cards and some guests bought small gifts, and some brought nothing.

I do remember them getting a decorative wine stopper and a couple of restaraunt gift cards. Nothing was expected so anything was appreciated as was just good wishes.

I wouldn't think a gift is expected. After all, you'll be taking gifts to the wedding shower and of course to the reception. But I too might feel awkward empty-handed. Maybe a bottle of wine or spirits.
