Re: General makeup question

[ Edited ]

@smoochy  Thank you Smiley Very Happy!!  Even at 34 I still have oily/combo skin and I've come to realize that it really balances out matte foundation and also helps me look a little younger than I am.  I am loving the luminous trends in makeup this summer, because I just let my skin do its thing underneath my makeup and then I get compliments on my makeup being glowy and nice Smiley Happy

I don’t care for a matte finish on myself. I prefer a glowy look. I also like my false lashes.

I agree with the oily look. When I'm watching our local news, I'm thinking....make up make up!! Hate the shiny look!!!

That seems shiny. Is that a new trend? What products have that look.

@bonnielu

Every time I see a "wet" looking face it reminds me of a makeup disaster I witnessed years ago.

The woman had makeup on but never bothered to set it with a translucent powder.  At some point she ran into someone she hadn't seen in ages and gave him a big hug.  Her makeup left a HUGE smear on his navy blue suit jacket .... he was aghast ... and she just thought it was funny .... WTH was this woman thinking?

I hope he sent her his drycleaning bill ... what she did was totally uncalled for!

@Shanus I really wish ALL the hosts would leave makeup application to the models.  Most are not very good at it anyways which translates to fewer sales.

Same for clothing.  Pick one outfit from the show and let the models model the rest of them.  I don't care for them running off-stage to change clothes.

I like a glowy foundation and do use a highlighter with a very light hand.  My goal for my SKIN is natural, but better than MY natural. And I apply much less foundation than anyone I've seen on YouTube.  The few times I have watched someone apply foundation on YouTube, I have been aghast at how much they use.  So, IMO, it's more about using a light hand.  I tap on my highlighter on my cheekbones; I don't swipe it.

However, I don't think the goal for lips and eyes should necessarily be natural.  That's where I want to have fun.  No, I don't expect anybody to believe that I'm not wearing makuep.  If I wanted that, I just wouldn't wear any like I do 99% of the time anyways.  I'm 65, but I enjoy my eyeshadows, eyeliner, and, gasp, sparkles.  In fact, I wore pink sparkles on my lids today.  Can't take the Figure Skater out of the girl.

@Tinkrbl44 Your story of a makeup mishap that you witnessed in that woman's interaction with a man gave me a flashback to when I was on a crowded train and this rude guy got on and slammed his back right into my face to get into the train.  I'm 4'11" and he was over 6' tall and my hot pink lipstick left a big kiss mark right on his sportcoat.  Before I could tell him what happened, he got off on the next stop pushing people out of his way and I watched my big hot pink kiss mark fade into a crowd.  He deserved it in my case Smiley Very HappySmiley Wink

While there are varying types of skin and makeup applications, what I really find distasteful is black or dark colored nail polish ... it always looks like the model injured her fingers and has a bad infection.

To make matters even worse, sometimes the black nail polish is peeling off.  Ugh.

Nails on any presenter should be nude or soft pink to avoid distraction from the product being described.

@Shanus @I find myself cringing when she does that. It must sell the product or she wouldn't do it..(maybe)

To the other oily-skin ladies here, be grateful! My mom had a peaches-n-cream French complexion in her younger years, but her face was very dry. I was jealous of her beautiful skin while I dealt with breakouts.

She always told me that 'someday' I would appreciate my greasy skin, and she was right! My face is still super oily at age 74, but I don't have any wrinkles ...yet. I know my day is coming.

Embrace your oily complexions and keep them healthy.
