Gel nail kits - interchangable?

I posted a thread about a deal on Living Social for a gel manicure system being offered by Luminesse. I didn't get any replies, so I'm going to try again!

Are these products interchangable with different brands? Like does the light work with other polishes, top coats etc.? There was a lot of gel nail polish in the clearance racks at my Walgreens for $3. Sure would like to hoard some up, if it will work with the other products that came in the Luminesse deal!
