I keep trying to post on this and it keeps getting removed. Why is it bad for your nails? I've had 3 gel manicures. My nails are stronger than ever and last 4-5 weeks. I take care of the new growth, by getting the same color in the regular polish and fill in as careful as possible. Iove the gel manicure. Why is it damaging?

So here’s the thing with gel...my nails grow like crazy and look great while the gel is on...but when I take off the gels, my nails are a mess...weak, peeling, etc...it takes weeks to get them back looking even somewhat normal...so I guess if you do gel all the time and go every week or two..they’ll look good....but eventually I would think you want to take a break, and they won’t be so pretty ....but this has been my experience, maybe it’s just my nails☺️

I have never heard of filling a gel manicure. mine is great the first two weeks, but after they grow out and they remove the gel, my nails are soft and weak. Before I started with these, my nails were nice and hard, not anymore, have not improved.

When I used to get gel manicures (though I onlly did them for a few times), my then manicurist said to only get gels twice in a row, then let the nails breathe for a couple of week before getting another. My current manicurist said the same thing. I recently got a gel manicure for Christmas because I so wanted red nails for Christmas! They were gorgeous! But I had the gel removed after about 2.5 weeks. No damage to the nails at that point.

I have the same issue. I thought it was my imagination but yeah, they look great and grow fast when it’s on and then after my nails look horrible and take weeks to recover. I’m dealing with that now. ☹️

Okay, thanks, I will soak them off after this time and see. What I mean by fill them in..is I get the regular polish in the brand of Gel polish they use (that matches)....and fill in the growth with that. It is not Gel...so I can do it myself to make it last a bit longer. I get it off e-b*y....

Are we discussing gel nails or gel polish?

@highmaintenancejanI love them when I'm going on a trip because it lasts so long. But wouldn't want to get it all the time.
Make sure you soak the polish and never peel the polish off.
I like to change my polish quite often.
