I am having such a difficult time getting a good foundation shade.
I am very fair and pretty much want to even out my complexion. I don't have any major correcting needs.
I would say the tone is neutral. I am getting way too much yellow for my preference.
My latest failures are Edward Bess and Bare Minerals serum foundation. They are so yellow they make my blush look coral instead of pink.
I chose the Bare Minerals from their website, thinking I was following their instructions. I got Porcelain, which was described as being for those that were fair with pink undertones. I don't have significant undertones of anything. I THOUGHT I was choosing for less yellow-ness.
Am I misinterpreting descriptions when I try to filter out too much yellow?

Hyacinth, check out the Missha products. They lean toward pinker tones. I am fair, cool and I give up on most other foundations. Missha has #13, fair, #21 fair/light and #23 medium. Also Lioele has a really nice gel foundation that I just started using and it is amazing. It covers well, needs no primer and no concealer or powder. It dries to a powder finish. Check it out.

Rarely do I see a foundation that's classified as 'neutral' -- mostly yellow, rarely pink (and I'm pink!).
L'oreal has a good range of shades with for different undertones (and neutral!). They have a little sheer plastic sheet you hold over the inside of your wrist and the shade that seems to disappear is supposed to be your ideal match.

ETA: Katluvr is right! I got a sample of Missha #13 and there was NO yellow in it. Just a tad too fair for me, so I'm going to try the #21. Five samples packets (one shade) on eBay for about $5.
Haven't tried the Lioele yet, but trust Katluvr's assessment.

I think I've seen it in Loreal and the Bare Minerals serum foundation. They describe the tone as neutral, cool, and warm.

Maybe try getting color-printed at Sephora though that's no guarantee. I haven't purchased the latest versions of Serous Skincare foundations, but they were really perfect for a neutral undertone IMO. They only had 3 shades back then, can't remember if shell or champagne was lightest but it was nice.

I am also fair with an even skin tone no reddish or yellowish. I found that the Bare Minerals serum foundation Bare Linen is perfect for me. It was stated that it was meant for those of us that have even skin tones.

The Estee Lauder foundation I use divides the colors by shade and then also by skintone (warm, cool, neutral). So for example, I use the second lightest shade, which comes in all three tones. I chose neutral. It's just about the best match I've ever been able to get.

Give Lucy Minerals a try, right now they are having 25% off, you can get sample sizes of all of the products...the full size products are reasonably priced...I have used Lucy for over a year and have never looked back. I love the coverage, color, never itchy or any breakouts, made in the USA, no animal testing, small company in Florida.

I have to always mix a light and medium to get my right shade!! ![]()
