If your neck/dec is not the same color , no foundation, as your face then the best thing to do is apply a foundation which matches your neck/dec. It's easier to cover your small face than it is to cover a larger area like your neck/dec. I learned that from a mua who sold cosmetics here, Kristopher Buckle.

That is a look I absolutely hate.  My face and neck are not the same color so I try to match my neck with foundation.  If I try to match face and bring it down my neck that does not always look right.  Finding the right color foundation is the hardest thing in makeup for me.  I bought the Josie Maran Matchmaker foundation for that reason.  It works fairly good.

@Luvsmyfam   No matter what the formulation is of the makeup whether full coverage liquid, powder, cream, etc. or light coverage or a tinted moisturizer...most women have a lighter face than neck.... just a fact of life. We're not as careful with spf on the neck and it gets some sun exposure.

Always match the face makeup shade to your face color and use a light shade of bronzer to slightly darken your face (just where the sun would hit) to make your face look like it's the same shade as the neck. There's nothing worse, to me, than wearing makeup on your neck...even going under your chin to try to blend it out. That means it's the wrong shade. If makeup/powder's on your neck, not only does it show up the earliest area to show age/wrinkles, but it inevitability gets on your clothing...especially in summer when you're wearing lighter colored clothing. 

My personal solution? I wear a tinted moisturizer and then use a concealer to match my skin tone (not the lighter one for under eyes) and go back to spot conceal around my nose, any spots on cheeks, red areas, etc. and blend well with a fluffy brush or damp sponge. The look is very natural and lightweight, easier to match to skin tones and reduces steps in your skincare.

When I was wearing foundation every day, I did not extend it down to my neck.  I tried this once because I read some place that you should.  What a mess!  It was all over my clothing and messy.  I believe as others have written, if it matches well enough to your face, you don't need to extend it.

@Shanus I must be an exception because my face is darker than my neck (and yes, I'm diligent about wearing sunscreen) so if I try to match my neck with foundation, my face looks ghostly pale. Bronzing doesn't look natural on me since I'm very fair. With or without foundation, I have the "floating head" thing going on. 😄

@Texasmouse   That's rare for sure. Do you have rosacea or any hyperpigmentation making your face darker? If not, I'd check your SPF that the # is over 50, sweatproof/waterproof and I use one w/ zinc oxide so NO rays are coming through. If this difference in color bothers you, it may not, you could consider a bleaching cream/system to even things out a bit or check with your derm for suggestions.

@Shanus nope, no rosacea or hyperpigmentation and I only use SPF of 50 and higher (plus I avoid the sun like the plague - down here in Texas, the sun is no joke) I just think it's my natural coloring. Thanks for the suggestions though.

@Luvsmyfam    I have never had that problem.  I wear a very light foundation which is more like a tinted moisturizer and I never needed to place on my neck.  You need to select a shade that blends into your skin and you won't need to do the neck.  Now I am speaking about a light foundation or tint or tinted moisturizer. I can't imagine foundation on my neck -- yuck!
