Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

@SandGirl  I find that IT Celebration lasts well on me.  I don't use primer, and don't usually use setting powder, but I'm trying to remember to do that.  I like Bye Bye Pores for that.

I've been testing MAC's liquid Mineral foundation, and am likeing that very much.  Can't talk about the staying power yet, though.

Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

Last weekend I went to the Sephora near me to get a different foundation.   The makeup artist used the machine to color match me,  she placed the machine on different places on my forehead, cheek and jawline to get a color.   The key to the machine is to make sure there is good light in the store and have the makeup artist place the machine in different places on your face.   I didn't have to make an appointment for the makeup artist to color match me, but one of the sales associates asked my name and let the makeup artist know that I was interested in being color matched for foundation.  I ended up buying NARs foundation.   So far so good with the foundation.   Hope you are able to get a foundation that you like!

@SandGirl - If you have a Sephora near you, they will use a testing machine to determine what type of foundation and what shades would be good for you to try. They usually recommend at least 10 or so, then you can talk to the mua and see what she/he thinks. They will gladly give you samples to try. There is NO obligation to purchase. That will give you an idea. Then you can ask the ladies on this forum what they think.

I use a variety too. My new favorite is Kristofer Buckle. I also use Bare Minerals original (I was late to that game; just tried for the first time last year!), IT CC Veil Foundation Cushion Compact, and Laura Geller Balance and Brighten.

If you find one you like that is sold here, you can usually get it with the brush included or as part of a kit. Also, there are TSV's offered as kits that are really worth getting! A lot of them will include foundation.

Like @Annabellethecat66 I use Laura Geller's Spackle under almost everything (except tinted moisturizer). I use the Champagne one.

Good luck! Smiley Happy

I am intrigued by what you posted about the machine at Sephora that tells you what kind and color makeup you should wear.  I never heard of this and think this might be really a great thing to do!  I think the clostest one to me is about an hour away.  Do you need to make an appointment to do this?  Thanks so much!!!

No appointment needed!

I would suggest that  you call your local Sephora and make sure they offer this service!  It is very helpful as you can tell the sales associate exactly what you are looking for in a foundation - coverage, finish, etc.  and that info is entered into the computer screen.  Good luck!

Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

I stopped in my mini Sephora today.  Wasn't sure if they even carried NARS, but they do.  I asked to be color matched in the NARS Sheer Glow foundation.  Prior to going I got online to a couple of the foundtion matching sites and using the Georgio Armani shade I have they both matched me with Mont Blanc shade in the NARS.

The first girl used the device on me and then called an expert over.  I heard her say it had given a match she was sure was too dark.  The girl looked at me and immediately picked up a bottle of Mont Blanc.  She swabbed some on my lower cheek and said it was a perfect match.  She also mentioned it was good for pink undertones, not being too yellow.  That's good since almost everything looks yellow going on.  I got a sample to try before I left.

It must've been a good match as I had trouble telling which cheek she put it on later after I got home.  Also, it was nice that it didn't feel tacky once it dried since I don't like having to use powder to counteract any tackiness.

Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

@JustJazzmom, I haven't had a chance to try it on a full face, so the jury is still out, but so far so good.  I see Ulta also sells it so maybe I can get another sample from them.

BTW, while I was in the Sephora I noticed they had some of the Josie Maran Whipped Body Butter, so I checked that out too.  I was actually surprised at how light it was.  I was expecting something heavier.  I'm not sure it's heavy enough for my winter needs, but it might work well in the summer.  The fragrances were hit and miss.  I liked the vanilla and the citrus one, but not the vanilla almond.  And the fragrances weren't that strong.

Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

@Tallgal, I almost always buy my foundations from Sephora and have done that matching with their machine. It is much more accurate than having them try to figure out my color match. Another thing that I like about buying from the brands that they carry, is that they have a nice range of undertones within each particular shade.

Re: Foundation Experts can you help me out?

@JustJazzmom  I would love to hear your take on the NARS Sheer Glow after you’ve worn it a few times. This is one that I’m interested in. I don’t live close to a Sephora but I’m planning on a day trip to visit my son in college. I can go then, but I wanted to know your opinion. TIA

@JustJazzmom. Never mind. Dumb me didn’t scroll down to see your other response. I want to try this foundation and will definitely need help color matching. 😊
