Re: For those who suffer from itching

Thank you for telling us about this..........I am not going to take it anymore. I notice itching and that must be what it is coming from. I will go back to sudafed.

Interesting........you know some people take Benadryl for sleep, yet it can cause restless leg syndrome.....you just never know!

I take Benadryl once in a blue moon but did not know this. It's been a few years since I've had RLS and I don't recall if I was took Benadryl at the time. I'm thinking I did.

Thank you for sharing your story, brown. I didn't know about the Zyrtec either.

I take two Benadryl most nights bc of allergies and it helps me sleep, but if I have alcohol, I cannot take it. It gives me RLS horribly. It happened one night, and I literally thought I was going to come unglued -- I was close to tears -- and it hit me that was the issue. Now, if I have more than one drink (which is really infrequently), I pass on the Benadryl. And some nights, I'd rather have the Benadryl. Lol!

Re: For those who suffer from itching

I developed cataracts in both eyes in my late 30's......my eye dr. asked me if I took Flonase and I had been on it for years for allergies/sinus issues....he said it often causes cataracts.....never saw this on the pile of paperwork they give you and my dr. never mentioned it......I think drs prescribing meds should familiarize themselves with common side effects of what they prescribe and pass that info on to the patient.

Re: For those who suffer from itching

I had this problem too. While you found many stories, it is still rare. My doctor didn't really believe me. I took Zyrtec again this year and am currently going through it again. It isn't as bad. I know, a glutton for punishment.

Thanks for this! I used to take Nasonex with Zyrtec, but hadn't for a couple of years. This time my doctor, instead of my allergist, prescribed flonase instead. My allergies were bad this year. It worked and I have stopped it now. I had no idea of this side effect.

That is truly a shame, lovesrecess. WebMD lists cataracts as a "rare" side effect.

My husband developed toxic hepatitis from a commonly used broad-spectrum antibiotic. Most people do just fine with it, though.

I'm taking flonase for non-allergic rhinitis that was driving me crazy. It has helped quite a bit, and I will continue on it but cut down my dosage as recommended by my allergist, mainly to keep it working effectively.

Re: For those who suffer from itching

Zyzal is the newest generation of Zyrtec so I would never take that. I am one of those people you read about when you researched. It was a nightmare and makes you feel like you are nuts. There is a site that explains why it happens - it is not an increase in allergies when stopping antihistamines like doctors try to say Smiley Happy i take claritin now.

Brown and yorkie, thank you for that info!

I have seasonal allergies and I would be in an evil funk if Claritan caused side effects like that.

Brown, are you going to find a substitute for Zyrtec?

I got a script for Xyzal. I got it filled but have not taken it yet, I am leery of trying a new drug, silly I know.

For now I occasionally take a benadryl if my allergies act up.

That is not silly at all! At least with Zyrtec, you know what you are dealing with.

Get your flu shot...because I didn't.
