Flat iron protection with denatured alcohol?

I'm trying to find something to put on my hair to help reduce the amount of damage from flat ironing so I just purchased Garnier Fructis Flat Iron with argan oil mist but the second ingredient is denatured alcohol. That seems like that would do damage not be protective.

Do you guys know anything about alcohol used in hair products and how it would be useful in a heat protectant?
