Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

Looking for a different shampoo for my salt n’pepper haor. Currently am using Pantene’s Silver Expressions about once or twice a week ( along with a moisturizing shampoo the other days). OK results but would like to try something  different. I have a Jamie Lee Curtis haircut, and thinning fine hair. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to accomplish with yur salt n pepper hair.  Are you trying to highlight the grey or tone it down?

I have silver hair and I use Pantene clear shampoo for volume and it dsounds like we have the same pixie like hairstyle.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

I have been using Suave Morroccan Infusion Shine Shampoo ever since I decided to embrace my grey hair instead of trying to fight it. I love it. My hair has a shine that I never got from other shampoos for grey hair, even ones bought from the hair salon. It's not expensive so if you are not pleased with the results you aren't out a whole lot of money.

My friend has short, thick, white hair that can get a yellowish cast. She uses a shampoo in the Jhirmack line and her hair’s beautiful. I think she told me she gets it from Amazon.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

I don’t use a “grey hair” shampoo. I look for one w/ hydrating or moisture properties, silicone and sulfate free. Usually Shea Moisture S&C suits the criteria. Once a month, I shampoo w/ Neutrogena Anti-residue shampoo to start fresh from any styling products or hair spray. I do have Clairol Shimmer Lights purple shampoo (Sally’s) to fade out any yellow, but rarely need to use it.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

My hair has thinned, and I keep it short, like you’ve described. It’s more white than gray in some parts. To keep the white bright and prevent it getting brassy in summer sun (or pool swimming) and to shine the darker silver parts, I like Clairol’s Shimmer Lights shampoo for gray/silver. It’s not expensive, comes in a big bottle, and does a great job leaving my hair with good body and very clean. It’s a purple shampoo, but it does not “blue” your hair. I use it regularly, not just once or twice a week. A little goes a long way. Has a nice, but not strong, scent.

I’ve tried Silver Expressions, too, and it’s very good and a little easier to find than Shimmer Lights. I went to a beauty supply shop to pick up Shimmer Lights but it’s also sold by Amazon. I like it best for my hair. Worth trying if you want good results to brighten and shine your  pepper & salt hair and have something new.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

I have white hair- for 20 years!

Redken just put out a new sh/cond. for grey and white hair, There is toner in both, some have the toner just in the shampoo. It is called gradient. strong!

I have so many. The old tried and true Clairol Shimmer lights or the Sally knockoff .It has the toner in it, if you use the shampoo with toner you can use any conditioner you like.

Klorane has a silver shine shampoo that is not purple but gives great shine.anti yellowing with Centuary.  Organix has a purple one that smells so good -lavendar.These are maintenance, not strong.

really so many choices. If you go to Ulta the person in the hair salon could help you pick one out.

My fail safe get rid of yellow -use the l'oreal everpure blonde reviving shampoo treatment. put it on dry or just washed hair, sit under a heat cap or just leave it on for a while I love the heat cap I got at Sallys but I still want an old fashioned bonnet hair dryer. .leave on for a while- wash out or rinse out. the whole loreal everpure line blonde is very good and I get it at Big lots for 3 dollars. Nothing comes close to the everpure blonde reviving treatment, although the blond conditioner will work. I leave it on 20 minutes or so. and with heat it is even better.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

Recently have been using AMIKA sold online at their website also see they have a kit at Sephora. This blue shampoo I really like a lot , as blue shampoos always seem very drying but  with this brand I have only purchased the shampoo and hair is very conditioned after rinsing out,  they do sell a conditioner also . They do sell other hair type products.

This is called Bust Your Brass. I use it for my grey hair my daughter likes it for her highlighted hair.

Re: Favorite shampoo for gray/silver hair

I have very short, fine, salt and pepper hair, but as my hairdresser will tell you," a lot of it." I have been using WEN's new Indigo line with the toner in the second cleanse. This product makes my gray sparkle and my med brown hair look richer. I never got compliments on my hair color until I started using the WEN and it gives tremendous body to my hair.
