The local news did a promo for an up coming news show on fake makeup. Looks like brands you buy online but wonder why they are so cheap. So I googled fake makeup.I found a bunch really cheap. The news talked about the consumer not knowing what harmful ingrients can be in it. I know lots of other things are dupes but never thought about makeup. What do you think?

Oh Cwap! It's time to read all ingredients on make up and compare to the real deal, huh?
I know that the Paul Mitchell hair products I use have a disclaimer on the bottles saying that if not purchased from a licensed salon, it may be counterfeit, out of date, etc. I have seen the shampoo at TJ Maxx, but now pass it by.
Thanks for the heads up!

I would not touch with a 10 foot pole! If you don't know the ingredients that is pretty scary if you are putting on your face. ![]()

Fake makeup is a huge deal. Mac Makeup I know has been sold a lot. On line & by street vendors. Totally fake!

I spent HOURS the other night on YT watching makeup videos. Started out watching videos on the Too Faced Natural Love palette I bought. I watched about fake makeup too and some offered videos on how to detect the differences in fake vs real. The palette I bought can be had on ebay for $6 vs $59
but it all comes from China. It's a BIG business! The last bottle of PTR Fusion PM I bought quickly developed a dirty dog smell. I contacted PTR and gave them the stamped number on the bottom of the bottle. Very hard to see. Based on that they were able to tell me that it was made in March of 2013. Don't know if that was the reason for the smell or not. I've replied asking if that hurts the quality of the product. The ebay seller has refunded my money. Just because someone is a long time seller with thousands of sales and excellent feedback, doesn't mean you're always going to get a good product, unfortunately.

I know the ingredients in the makeup I have. OP is talking about fakes...So how do I know what I purchase is the real deal unless I check each product against another of the same?

I never thought about makeup either. I guess people will do anything to try to make a quick dollar.
I have never seen any...is this stuff mainly online? And bigger cities- I saw one reply said street vendors-no telling what is in it.

I've heard of baby powder in named brand powder sold on EBay & Amazon. I did unknowingly buy a fake OPI that was a discontinued color I really wanted. It chipped, then noticed a misspelling on the back of the bottle. That's when I learned about fakes.

I think you mean counterfeit.

Fake and counterfiet are the same. The You Tube vids I watched all used the terminology "fake".
